Apparently I also have buckled wheel, odd that I didn't have this when I took it in?

Another unhappy customer here. 15000 miles and was told last week all 4 wheels buckled. I haven't hit anything hard enough to bend a wheel, let alone all 4. Mine are the option 21's on a facelift. I agree with other posters who have suggested a sticky and register for this. I heard from a guy down the road from me today that just got the same news too, all 4. These wheels aren't fit for purpose on the tyres that Audi supplied them with.

Just some facts for the help of all with this problem,

Stock 20" wheels are forged and very strong.
All optional 21" wheels are cast and as proven, have shown to be very susceptible to damage.
The 2014 brochure states this I believe.

I suggest aftermarket fully forged or at least flow formed wheels with a minimum max load weight of 750kg then you should have no problems.

I have BBS CI-R wheels on my 2016 RS6 that take all sorts of abuse on London speed bumps and potholes with no problems for over 10k, the same set of wheels did over 30k on my C6 RS6 in the same conditions.

I can thoroughly recommend them for these cars and I can get good discounts from the UK main BBS supplier if anyone is interested? Just PM me and I will put you in contact with them.

Thanks Stuart

I would be very surprised if the 20" OEM are forged since they are a NCO, has anyone weighed them? The 21s are flow formed but have a cast inner lip which may be causing the buckling according to a wheel specialist that straightened my OEMs.

As Stuart says, Audi claims the 20" wheel is forged, whereas the 21" is cast. Whether the 20" is forged or not is another question, but that is what the brochures state.

It's irrelevant which wheel is forged or not so many owners suffering failures Audi needs to step up to the mark - the B5 RS4 had a similar issue which Audi eventually admitted too.

Exactly. We have a 3 year warranty and I would expect that any wheels that Audi supply should be capable of lasting at least that long under normal use and without hitting any potholes. The fact that they supply some wheels that are possibly stronger is irrelevant. They didn't ask me to sign a disclaimer at purchase to say that the 21" wheels are soft, will buckle and they take no responsibility.

I would imagine that in my life i have driven over 300k miles and before this car I have only buckled one wheel and I knew it would be as soon as I hit that pothole. I drive 15k miles in this car, hit nothing and all 4 are bent.

I'm working with my dealer ATM to have them repaired, at their cost. We will see how that works out, if they can be properly straightened. In any case, I am still of the opinion that AUK need to accept this is a genuine issue and provide a long term solution. A regular appointment at the wheel straighteners is not acceptable in my book.

The B5 suffered with a soft wheel issue - Audi subsequently released a 'harder' wheel plenty info on this website regarding this.

I'm running 20s at the minute and was going to buy a brand new set of 21s - think I will save my money and go aftermarket.

But you are right jonnyh they should not be failing - I did 23k last year in my C6 which was on 20s.

These 21s seem to have a flaw in them.

So, nobody with the issue going to take the initiative to start a separate thread/directory and ask Phil to make it a sticky?

Audi couldn't care less.

Good luck with them admitting anything is wrong with wheels.

You think they are going to spend millions developing a stronger wheel?...no chance.

Best you "might" get if under warranty is a new set of wheels.
