Vs Tesla Model S
Re: Vs Tesla Model S
Model S Specs: 86.2 width with mirrors extended and 77.3 with mirrors folded. (2180mm and 1963mm)
D2 S8 is 1976 over mirrors, significantly narrower. D3 is 2028 (body 1894)
Tesla info from here: https://forums.tesla.com/forum/forums/a ... el-s-width
D2 & D3 info from brochures.
Don't try and squeeze a Tesla through one of those 6'6" width restrictions!

Re: Vs Tesla Model S
Probably a good time to introduce myself to this forum
I've always admired the RS2 from a young age so I recently ordered an RS6 Avant to act as our family wagon and fulfill a dream. Currently scheduled for production 30th January 2017, likely to go phsical at the dealer 4 weeks later. I plan to pick it up early March 2017.
The RS6 Avant will be in addition to my Tesls Model S P85D which is now 6 months old, I've owned from new and showing 12,500 miles......great car, continues to blow my mind in every way.
I'm looking forward to RS6 and providing a balanced review based on experience a few months into running both cars.

Guys, we buy rs and enjoy sound, I have my friend who has Porsche with electric motor and he miss sound, so
I don't think we are ready for electric cars

BMW i8 sounds awesome so maybe we are. And the SQ5 with an aftermarket widget can also sound awesome. Might be engineered but so are the pops and bangs with the RS6.Tadass910 wrote:Guys, we buy rs and enjoy sound, I have my friend who has Porsche with electric motor and he miss sound, so

Re: Vs Tesla Model S
This is only the P90D - the P100D would leave it even further behind.
I've got a Model X (90D) coming in late Feb as a replacement for my Q7. Was looking to order an SQ7 but the Model X worked out roughly the same price on a similar spec, massively reduced running costs and a little bit faster (not that I ever expect to use that part).
The trouble with driving a Tesla is that going back into a normally engined car feels like going from an iPhone back to a Nokia 5110. And I don't get the hybrids which seems the complexity of both worlds squared when integrated - maybe great on salary give-up or company car but not as a long term personal purchase, I can see some massive repair bills in the future on these.
On the range side the superchargers are supposed to put in about 100 miles of range in 10 minutes. We regularly do a 320 mile journey down to Cornwall and there are plenty of superchargers on route so the usual break to stretch the legs will comfortably give enough range to make it - time will tell...
Not getting rid of my RS6 though as its a good balance and always brings a smile when I take it out.

Re: Vs Tesla Model S
Recently read that Tesla are withdrawing their free top-up/charging service, which I thought was quite a big USP for the brand.

Problem with superchargers are they reduce battery life. The environmental credentials are iffy at best and I don't see the practicality working. Might be OK for crawling round London but I can't see long distance stacking up.

Yes, from April next year - it hasn't always been free but is on most models at the moment, it was originally designed to facilitate the longer distances. Most people are not too worried as they charge at home and only use them on the odd long journey.Surrey Sam wrote:Recently read that Tesla are withdrawing their free top-up/charging service, which I thought was quite a big USP for the brand.
Personally my annoyance with this isn't that they are removing it - it's more that they intend to use petrol as the price-point for the cost
