Best Place to Sell Private
Best Place to Sell Private
Hi All,
I currently have a standard C7 RS6, but have been tempted by a combination of a good deal and my lack of will power, to upgrade to an RS6 Performance.
I have agreed a decent trade in price with the dealer, but am considering advertising privately to see if I can get that few grand more just to lessen the hit somewhat....
I'm hoping for suggestions of where best to advertise - I don't really want the hassle that goes with a private sale - but if anyone has any experience of selling a car of this type and value privately then any advice would be appreciated.
Just for info spec is: First Reg: March 2015, Daytona Grey, Sports Exhaust, 21" Black Gloss Wheels, Gloss Black Styling Pack, advanced key, privacy glass, parking pack, no finance.
It's done 7500 miles, and is pretty much immaculate. I had a full Gyeon Quartz new car detail completed at brand new, and had a refresh detail after 1 year, and have washed it properly and kept up the top up treatments myself in between times.
The performance I've ordered (build week 42) should arrive in November, and is more or less the same spec, but I've gone for parking pack advanced, as like the idea of the all-round cameras. I've stuck with the black leather seats with grey stitching though as just wasn't sure about the alcantara inserts... Hope I've not made a mistake there....
Cheers in advance for any advice...

As crazy as it might sound...
Sold both my 2015 RRS and R8 V10 on Ebay.
Yes there are the usual d1cks; however its quite easy to determine who is genuine; both mine went within 2 weeks of advertising them.
As for value - if it helps, I bought my March 2015 6400miles, Pan Roof, Dynamic pack, etc from JCT 600 Bentley - gave them £64k for it; wanted £66k ironically, they increased the price to £67200 due to the number of calls they were getting on it. Being cheeky with the price on ebay wont do any harm, worst that can happen is that you get chancers trying to bid you in the bollox; serious buyers aren't going to mess about; at this pricing point, they either want the car or they don't - they aren't exactly spoiled for choice on supply.
I was chasing a number of other cars prior to this one; I waited around 24hrs on each of them whilst trying to decide on whether I wanted Merlin on one car, or massage seats on another; I missed the boat on all of them
Sold both my Std B5 - R500 FOR and MTM Stage 3 monster B5 - R55 BYE off this site back in the day - bought the MTM from the site too
Thanks JohnH
Hope this helps

haha
its prime for a 2015 RS 6
beats WBAC and likely the dealer PX and hassle free
if it was a 2007 RS 4, I'd recommend pistonheads
Re: Best Place to Sell Private
Many thanks for replies - I'd never heard of tootle, worth a try, will see if they beat the part ex...
eBay is an interesting suggestion, will have a look at that also....
I wasn't sure of the rules on selling on here - but I was thinking of advertising an initial price of £64000 with the inevitable negotiation. I've got a fairly good part ex price, so won't be able to drop too much before it makes it easier and simpler just to go with the dealer....
If someone was looking for a car of this age (it is a facelift I forget to mention) and rough spec I doubt they'd find one in much better condition.
Thanks again for advice

Re: Best Place to Sell Private
From my experience at this sort of value a waste of time. I have sold sub 30k interesting cars Privetly well and also top end 100k plus cars via specialist forums etc but so many time wasters and thieves (trying to steel it not negotiate) I would trade in if you have a fair offer.
A friend of mine runs a specialist brokerage company that is also a good option if you are not in a hurry. That way the buyer is buying with dealer facilities for finance etc and he will then return you much more than the trade price all pre agreed and you retain ownership until it is sold.

Re: Best Place to Sell Private
I agree that's it difficult to sell high value cars privately. The huge majority use finance and there is a percieved security from going to a dealer, especially when dealing with quibbles post-sale.
You can of course use your own finance option, but i often find if i use the dealer's option i can use that as a negotiating point so it's been a while since i've used the likes or Oracle.
I really struggled to sell my GT3, despite it being easily the best value car on the market. I literally got no calls and it was for sale at the best time of year! I then put it on SOR with an independent dealer and it was sold in a couple of weeks.

Re: Best Place to Sell Private
I was going to suggest SOR if you have the time. Stick it on one of the SOR delears forecourts and if it is still there when the new car is due then part-ex it. Only issue with this is that you won't have use of the car.

Re: Best Place to Sell Private
Thanks again for replies, not able to give up use of car for SOR so thats not an option unfortunately.
Still looking at the different options suggested and taking on board the different views on whether trying for a private sale is worth it. The issue of time wasters, and more importantly potential thieves is one that concerns me, and do think most people at this price point would be looking for finance, or if paying cash the reassurance of a recognised dealer (I know I would be if buying second hand....)
Erring towards just taking the part ex price, but will consider the advice given. Many thanks.

Re: Best Place to Sell Private
I would agree that at this level it will be very hard to achieve a private sale. I would imagine listing on PH or Autotrader would result in you just getting calls or emails from trade buyers.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing and has resulted in the sale of my last two cars in the £30-40k bracket.
Although i haven't used it, Tootle could be the answer for you - certainly worth a shot.

Re: Best Place to Sell Private
Haha - ok - thanks HYFR - I will try tootle if nothing else....
I did have a quick look, and got the impression I'd be better off waiting to input my details until nearer the time of the sale.
As I won't be ready to sell until November, I am assuming I should wait as with most of these things the price will reduce over time and certainly each time you get a new quote as they will know I've visited the site before....
Thanks all.

Re: Best Place to Sell Private
Following HYFR's recommendation I've currently got my car listed on tootle. The offers so far have been much better than I was getting from car supermarkets or PX from dealers.HF25 wrote:Haha - ok - thanks HYFR - I will try tootle if nothing else....

The ad only lasts for five days after which time all offers are automatically declined unless you specifically accept one. You can relist straight away and the whole process begins again.
