Driving in Europe & the tech...
Driving in Europe & the tech...
Off to the continent at the weekend and was wondering -
1) matrix headlights: do people flip these via the MMI to driving on the left, or just let the car automatically dim the lights etc... as per normally use? just I notice if you use the MMI to flip to left hand driving the range is then limited.
2) adaptive cruise control: does this work properly when driving in Europe...? just if I have it on and end up in the situation whereby I end up undertaking someone over here, the car doesn't like it and starts to put the brakes on... or does it adjust when the MMI is flipped to left hand driving for the lights?
Admittedly, I'm being a bit lazy in not looking in the manual, but if anyone knows or has experience, I'd be most grateful to hear!
thx

Re: Driving in Europe & the tech...
No bother with either. I've done several thousand miles in France using both without bother.
Re: Driving in Europe & the tech...
Same as doodlebug. I've driven in France a few times now with no issues. I usually switch the headlights in the MMI.

Cool - thx chaps
Re: Driving in Europe & the tech...
Adaptive cruise control works just fine. Yes I switch on MMI
Re: Driving in Europe & the tech...
I think the sat nav knows you are in Europe and adjusts accordingly so I was told.
Re: Driving in Europe & the tech...
No you have to physically alter it to the other side!
I changed mine to left driving, put the head up display in kmh and then sat at a decent distance from my cousins sq5 with the adaptive cruise and ran it in on the way to Switzerland. Great trip!

Re: Driving in Europe & the tech...
Did you try not doing it and seeing if it did it by itself though?
Re: Driving in Europe & the tech...
It is as Mike says. The car adapt itself depending on which country you are in. No need to alter the headlights in the MMI. The switch from MPH to KMH and the like has to be done manually.
Re: Driving in Europe & the tech...
I didn't no Mike I was playing with the mmi on tunnel whilst kids were sleeping in the back

Re: Driving in Europe & the tech...
just to confirm what was said before, the car is clever enough to know that its in Europe from the satnav and switches the lights and adaptive cruise to suit. All good.... providing your satnav system doesn't go on the fritz as mine did!?
the car got locked on some random location and thus meant i was driving off road for vast swaths of my trip - see pic below: car thought had driven to Split from Italy, when actually I was just past Lyon - this in turn defaults the settings back to its standard ones (e.g. uk settings) and also disables the ability in the MMI to flip the lights manually too. brilliant.
anyway, it took about a dozen resets of the MMI to get the thing working again (and for some reason the reset only worked when the car was not running and then turned off straight after the reset).
