You are probably right but I bet most people that take that option will spend the money on something else rather than keep it just in case.

It's a personal choice though, some people will rather mod and save the money, others will rather spend it on a new car and not have to worry about warranty / increased insurance costs / limited insurance companies / possible resale impacts / decreased reliability and all the other issues that come with modifying cars. I'm guessing the OP has already considered this option and is more comfortable with the new car option?

I knew there were hardware changes, and at launch i read it somewhere - but I couldn't for the life of me find it.

This is the first confirmation i've been able to find.

I guess a part code search of these bits would confirm finally. At least you all know where to look!

As we all know i'm a massive fan of mods.... :-))))

For me i want a car i can use to its limits and not panic about the bills. And then when i'm mega loaded i'll have an rs6 with better internals for bigger mods :-)

Also, cost of change - gearbox? £20k engine £30k?

I bought the car new a year ago. I've been down the modding route before in my Subaru years and I'm afraid I can't be bothered with the insurance hassle and the arguments when it goes wrong or the expected gains don't quite match up to the claims. It's not as if I'm driving around cursing the lack of power :D. However, if the PE was *noticeably* more powerful I would be tempted because... well, just because.

On the subject of modding. I detuned my Golf a few days ago. The only slight problem the tune had caused me was a couple of occasions where I got some clutch slip setting off with my foot down. I mentioned this to the tuner. He said that APR now do a transmission mod for the R which increases the pressure applied to more accurately map the torque from the engine. This (for me) has put me off future modding simply because it proves the point that too much guess work is done by tuners and not enough testing is done to make sure other components can cope.

That's the cool thing about the ferrari golf plus we own, you can't drive it in D now because lazy acceleration just spins the clutches - you have to drive everywhere in S.

It's bloody quick for a 1.9PDI Golf, and if it eats the clutch pack, I don't care - as it's an excuse to make it even more stupid.

That's the point tho - the Ferrari Golf Plus is a 55 plate car worth £3k beaten to hell, with £3k spent in mods it wastes most cars - it's a real smile on your face, and if / when i break it the bills are small.

To do what I've done to the ferrari Golf - to my RS6 would be mental unless I had so much money to treat it with the same disregard as the ferrari Golf.

BTW the mk5 golf platform is incredible, you wouldn't believe how this thing tracks the road - and it just takes the power.
