Re: Sports Exhaust- Black Bezels- Degradation
Sports exhaust will be the black tips....
I am hoping they may be improved, just waiting to see if anyone who had them replaced previously have had repeat issues...

Well my car is 2016 model and happening to mine

Re: Sports Exhaust- Black Bezels- Degradation
Well tips replaced under warranty - no issues at all. Doesn't seem that anyone who has had them replaced previously have had repeat issues so fingers crossed....

Re: Sports Exhaust- Black Bezels- Degradation
Well my car is in for service today and asked them to look at the corroded exhaust tips. Surprise, surprise they have come back to advize that is NOT covered by warranty
Long shot I know but has anyone had theirs changed at Aberdeen Audi under warranty?
Alternatively has anyone taken this up with Audi UK and got approval to have them replaced?
My piss is well and truly boiling to say the least.
Thanks in advance.

Feel your pain. Mine are degrading but I can't face Aberdeen Audi
Re: Sports Exhaust- Black Bezels- Degradation
Hi ABZ - that's very inconsistent as I've had mine replaced under warranty (Listers Group) as have many others according to the forum.... I assume these claims have been approved by Audi UK so perhaps best going to them?
On this topic before I had mine changed I asked if anyone who'd had the tips replaced had experienced any re-occurrence, no one replied in the positive, but I can report my new ones are starting to go so looks like I'll be making a 2nd trip to dealers at some point...
From talking to a detailer who cleaned my car he suggested due to the design it's more likely to be stones getting flicked up by the back wheels through the gap between the actual exhaust and the tips, and spat out the exhaust tips which is the culprit, rather than corrosion from salt etc which was previously mentioned. I'm not sure what is the cause but it hasn't been resolved by warranty replacement...
Good luck
Cheers

Re: Sports Exhaust- Black Bezels- Degradation
Unfortunately the issue has not been solved for me and the tips are looking pretty poor again. I did send a query off to Audi a while ago but didn't get a reply. Audi Stirling made it clear that they changed the tips the first time as a courtesy and as a one off. I have not been back to see if they will replace them again...yet
As for the mechanism that is causing the degradation, I am convinced that it is not a stone chip issue- my diffuser is still immaculate and you'd expect it to have picked up the odd stone chip by now particularly around the tips. That said the diffuser design is poor around the tips as it does gather a lot of stones.
I am considering buying a new set and then figuring out a way to get then plastic/rubber coated- these parts are not directly connected to the exhaust system and thanks to the venturi effect, cool air is being drawn in through and around them so they don't run that hot- might need to do some experimenting to prove this is the case when driving "spiritedly" first though. I see you can get carbon fibre ones- they might be more resilient- depends on the polymer used to bond the fibres I guess, but i'm not a fan of carbon so won't be pursuing this as an option.
Just did a search and apparently you can get Black Chrome which claims to be even more resistant than chrome! I'm going to send a query off to a few to see how durable the chrome is likely to be for exhaust gas usage.

Re: Sports Exhaust- Black Bezels- Degradation
Could this be related to the exhaust popping? Could that unburnt fuel being pumped into the exhaust to make it pop have an effect as it leaves the system and enters the atmosphere and pops (explodes)? Do the people suffering from this drive in Dynamic / manual a lot?
Re: Sports Exhaust- Black Bezels- Degradation
No, I have used dynamic mode on only a handful of occasions and my bezels are completely shot. Waiting to hear back from Audi about the warranty claim.....

Re: Sports Exhaust- Black Bezels- Degradation
Could be part of it, I'm sure unburnt petrol is a lot harsher on the finish than the pH neutral shampoo I use (they also asked about what I used to clean the car). I'm in dynamic mode about 95% of the time, unless in stop-start traffic or on a long, boring drive.MikeFish wrote:Could this be related to the exhaust popping? Re: Sports Exhaust- Black Bezels- Degradation
It's stones ingested at the front end. I've seen it happen on a stony drive. Filled both exhaust tips, I had to get my hand in and clean them out.

I've had the same, but that doesn't explain why it's the inside edge of the exhaust tip being effected and not the sides.
