Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
Re: Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
This whole gap insurance scam pisses me off. Isn't the point of insurance that if I have a loss I'm covered? So why do I have to take out another policy to make up the difference between what my 1st insurance pay and what they should have paid. Talk about getting butt f'ed.

Re: Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
does your normal car insurance cover you for a new car in the 1st year? ie they will get you a new RS6 same spec (is this what they have offered already) or will give you £x cash which is less then the invoice price?
Re: Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
This is why I do everything in writing and I put my understanding in writing to whomever I deal with for confirmation.Markp wrote:Which type were you sold?
Finance GAP insurance. If you’ve borrowed money to buy the car, you might still owe more than the insurance company will pay out. Finance GAP insurance pays the finance company enough to cover your debt – you’ll be left with no car and no money, but at least you won’t be in the red.
Return-to-invoice insurance. This is designed to top up the payment from your car insurance so that you get back exactly what you paid for the car (or any outstanding finance). This type of policy can be bought for both new and older cars.
New car (or ‘vehicle replacement’) GAP insurance. This is like return-to-invoice insurance, but it’s designed to compensate for the rising cost of cars, or where a discount has been given on the cost of the car which may not be available again in the future. New car GAP insurance makes sure you get your money back plus a bit more, so you can replace your car for a new one of the same model and specification.
I bet half of the guys selling these cars and gap insurance don't actually know the difference between the products.
No matter where you go, there you are.
Re: Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
Another point given your car is less than 12mths old, would it not be better to go through your regular insurance company initially as surely they'll have new for old within the 1st 12 months so GAP shouldn't be needed.

Paul I am going through my Aviva insurance. What GAP insurance are supposed to do is fill in the gap from my Aviva policy back to invoice valve. Oh and the way I was sold it in the belief this would happen between 0-3 years.W8PMC wrote:Another point given your car is less than 12mths old, would it not be better to go through your regular insurance company initially as surely they'll have new for old within the 1st 12 months so GAP shouldn't be needed.

Re: Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
reading the policy docs you have posted up I think you are going to have to take the new RS6 and then sell it on. Then perhaps argue the cost of the difference with the GAP The docs seem pretty clear as to what they will do ie replace the car - they dont offer the cash as far as I can see for a new invoice price.Eddie555 wrote:Paul I am going through my Aviva insurance. The car they have offered - have they actually got a new car ready for you now? or is an on order for 3 mths down the line as in new build. if available now what is spec?
Re: Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
If you read the last 3 paragraphs the first para and last para is a contradiction. 1 says they will use brand new cost to offset. Then the last para says if I don't except it MAY!!! Result in no benefit being paid. It's a clause that they have used to bum jam me.
I'm still waiting on Aviva to call back to see what they are defo gonna offer as replacement but I won't be having anything less than exact spec. They have said though it will possibly have to be a factory order.

Re: Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
What i meant Eddie was surely your regular insurance would payout in full if your policy has new for old in the first 12mths. Surely your insurer would then either replace your car with a brand new equivalent or payout the equivalent cost. This assumes your car is less than 12mths old.Eddie555 wrote:Paul I am going through my Aviva insurance. This often negates the need for GAP in the 1st year of a new cars life if your policy does new for old which i believe many do.

Re: Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
These <beep> insurers make me laugh. Surely it easier to offer cash than order a new car even if they offer you the discount price that they could buy the car for. Shame it was not them that had a gun to there head!
Re: Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
Yea I get what you're saying Paul but Aviva who were very good at first are now also playing silly buggers. I keep saying pay me what it's gonna cost you to buy a new one but they're insisting on getting me a factory order as it was only 9 months old.W8PMC wrote:What i meant Eddie was surely your regular insurance would payout in full if your policy has new for old in the first 12mths. Re: Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
eddie, like all posters on here, truly sorry this has happened to you, always followed your posts would not wish what happened on anyone, but to someone like me who abso loves the car-what a wrench for you, just glad you are safe.what it has done is made me paranoid, take the keys to bed with me !!! took the car in today for it's first oil service and asked about the tracker,( another post on here ) and yes it is fitted in one of 2 places, because I am told,it is a retrofit-my reply was that is bl--dy useless-yeah that's going to stay a secret for a long time isn't it ????god your misfortune means we are finding out some really bad things--also the Gap insurance, what the heck is this all about-now got to dig that out and read it like no tomorrow, we are all sold the GAP insurance as the best thing ever and mine formed part of the discount I wanted,in other words they wouldn't give me quite the discount I wanted but they would throw in the GAP,so arguably a sweetener to seal the deal.
this is nothing compared to what you have been through,so very best wishes and good luck in your decisions and solving the problems.

Re: Had the RS hijacked at gun point.
they won't have to pay the VAT, so its 20% cheaper for them to get you a new car
