Caught scrotes nicking my chassis number

Post by Eddie555 » Thu Nov 05, 2015 12:12 am

Security lights came on and I looked through my window only to see 2 hooded louts checking out my chassis number in the window screen. Told the fcukers to fcukers off as they were walking off and told them how dumb they were cause the house is surrounded by CCTV. I double checked on the CCTV and it doesn't look like they managed to get the full number cause I could see one looking and the other writing and they literally had 1/2 a second glimpse when I caught them.

Beware the RS246ers who live in Brum.

Gonna speak to Audi in the morning and find out if they can get duplicate keys and if they can or even if they can't I'll be having a complete recode and door barrel just in case.

Might be a bit late now but I've used a ruler and managed to shove a piece of plain paper down between the screen and dash to cover the number so no can see it in future.

As a matter of interest does anyone know what they'll do with my chassis number??? Cause I'm just thinking they'll try and get keys duplicated.

Maybe making duplicate VIN plates for a stolen motor to clone.

They can, in theory, get duplicate keys but they should be asked for proof of ownership and ID. Warn Audi and ask if they can flag it up on their system and block any requests for duplicates on your VIN. I would not change locks etc.
More worrying us that your car has been targeted - there are other ways to nick it VIN or no VIN.

Spoke to Audi first thing this morning. Awaiting call back to confirm block on duplicate keys.
Decided to start using my old Disklok and Wickes have a special on for a Yale wireless remote control house alarm system for £99. So I'll stick the alarm box on the house and leave the PIR sensor on the dash every night.
I'm also gonna drop my bottom dash panel housing the OBD plug and resite it today.

Had a reassuring call back from Audi. What the scrotes have done by nicking my number would be pointless as even if I myself was to order a new key it would still need to be coded to the car via the OBD. The new key would only mechanically open the door via the slot key but the remote and the keyless start still has to be programmed in within 15 seconds before the alarm goes off. Hence moving the OBD plug will stall them enough so the alarm can wake me so I can pelt stones and rocks and whatever else I put my hands on ( maybe even the missus) at them from my bedroom.

I don't really think these pair are too bright. If they're gonna Nick it the OBD way they may as well of got any blank key break the window and programmed into my car. They'd struggle through my windows though cause I have Toad SecureFIX on my Windows.

Easier just removing starter fuse every night. I had to do this after ours was stolen. It was recovered but they still had a key. It takes a week as keys are special order from Germany and you have to go into the dealer with ID

I'd have said that it was more likely they were using the number to create clone VINs for stolen cars as suggested above.

I'm loving the idea of sticking a wireless PIR in the car connected to a siren on the house though.

Thought you had a facelift. If so, the front windows are laminated already.

I thought that was a good one too Mike. For a bargain price of £99 I thought why not. They ain't gonna bypass that one!!!

The Yale alarm from Wickes also says it's anti-jamming so should stop scrotes with a wireless jammer unit (used to jam wireless home security cameras).
