RS6 (C7) Sports Exhaust

Post by davidb1956 » Thu May 28, 2015 3:38 pm

All,

I am new to the forum - currently in discussions re. spec of an RS6. I am set on ticking the box for the upgraded Sports Exhaust, however I just wanted to check - I have seen a number of RS6s in the flesh, as well as in photos. There seems to be a differing appearance of the exhausts on a number of the cars I have looked at. Some examples I have seen have polished/chrome exhaust tips, which really stand out, whilst others appear to have darker exhaust tips (not just carbon buildup due to a heavy right foot, but actually darker as a whole).

Is there a difference in the appearance of the exhausts between the standard system and the Sports Exhaust, aside from the increased exhaust note?

I would welcome any other advice on "must have" features to consider in my spec.

Cheers

Simply:
Standard = chrome
Sports = black

Hi and welcome.

The sport exhaust has polished black tips vs the chrome finish on the regular exhaust.

In terms of spec, its personal preference, but for me the following were important:
- Pano sunroof: really brightens the interior
- Parking pack advanced: its a big car and the top-view camera is excellent
- HUD: having had a car with one previously I find it invaluable

Mine has the assistance pack which I would give a miss TBH, lots of money for little value.

Style wise, I think the larger alloys and black / carbon pack suit the car well but its all down to individual taste.

There have been quite a few posts on spec do's and don'ts threads on this forum and I also suggest you look on the VW Audi Owners' forum in A6 and A7 sections where there are loads more (most RS6 options are also available throughout the range, of course); for example, someone on the A7 forum gives an in-depth review ofthe night camera. Each person wants something different but to my mind the electronics is just a question of how much you like gadgets and how deep your pockets are; the real spec issues concern suspension and brakes and - of course - colour and trim options. Here is my spec summary:
HUD - OK but not that fussed now
Speed Limit Display - very variable performance that undermines its usefulness
Assistance Pack - invaluable (I do a lot of motorway miles, makes it all much less tiring)
Convenience Pack - blinds are good, boot load kit a bit lightweight, mat a bit rubbishy
Parking Pack Advanced - cameras invaluable, self parking is pointless
Audi Phone Box and Connect - you have to have Connect IMO to round out the Infotainment system, Phone Box only useful for people without rSAP.
Pan Roof - I find the interior is fine without it. Only opened it once and wish I hadn't bothered. It is a lot better for people in the back than the front.
Sports Exhaust - you have to on a car like this, unless you plan to have something done aftermarket.
Keyless entry - I never ever want to own another car without it. wonderful.

I had air suspension as I have a towbar. I had the 21" wheels in black because they are gorgeous.

I've ordered Sports exhaust at the recommendation of others and the dealer. I'll be honest, I'm nervous about it. I wanted the black tips, but have big concerns about the noise where I live! I presume it's sellable/swappable?
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

Unless you set the exhaust to "Dynamic" it is not really any noisier than the standard exhaust. In Comfort mode, the exhaust is pretty quiet.

Thanks for the replies - it's as simple as that then. I am sure on the exhaust - the extra noise is welcomed. Similar system on my SQ5 when in sport/dynamic mode (though that is a dirty diesel so somewhat artificial!).

I have seen some beautiful Panther black RS6s around - 21 inch wheels with the red brake calipers and privacy glass really looks the part. That's the way I am going.

Cheers chaps.

I would not be too concerned, louder on the cold cycle start and then nearly silence until you open it up..The black tips are painted with cheese....2 sets under wanrranty already.
