New to the fold

Post by Dumbo » Tue Mar 31, 2015 12:50 pm

Hi All,

New member, having just bought an RS6.

Been running an F10 M5 for the last 2.5 years, had an '11 GTR before that for 18 months and an E60 M5 for a couple of years before that. Been meaning to try an RS for a while - I nearly bought a B7 RS4 when I got my first M5 in 2009.

Anyway, I have been thinking of changing the M5 for something for a couple of months. Looked at an M6GC but it just felt too similar to what I was leaving. I looked at a used RS6 a few months ago but couldn't get the numbers to work. Roll on to last Friday when I thought about taking a look at a new one, went to my local dealer Saturday, was told its a 6 month wait for a new car. Then found a new unregistered one listed on PH with another dealer and after a few phone calls yesterday, it is mine. Hope to pick it up next week! :jump_clap:

Spec is not exactly what I would have chosen, but it includes the key things I wanted:

- Glacier White
- Black interior w/ rock grey stitching
- Black styling package
- HUD
- Assistance Package
- Advanced key
- Dynamic Pack
- Heated front / rear sets
- Pano roof
- Parking pack advanced
- Privacy Glass
- 21" gloss black alloys
- Sports exhaust

V excited, looking forward to getting a few miles on her and getting to know you guys on here.

Cheers,

DB

Nice one.

Not a dissimilar car history to mine (see below), although i opted for the LCi F10 M5 over the C7 RS6 for this period.

Looking forward to seeing photos as i had an A8 in Glacier & think it's a lovely colour, however never seen it on a C7, let alone an RS6.

Enjoy.

congrats on the car, that's a good spec. What would you have changed?

And hopefully you got a good deal!

Thanks guys.

W8, I had seen some of your posts about the rejected M5. You will love the LCI I'm sure - I enjoyed mine but I get bored too quickly and it was time for a change.

I would have dropped the Assistance package and opted for red brake callipers if I ordered new. I was thinking Sepang, although Glacier is growing on me (thankfully!)

Having never seen a white RS6 in the flesh I am quite intrigued!

Two questions as well:
1. Is it easy to remove the "Quattro" insert from the front grill (i.e. is it just a clip-on in front of the grill)?
2. Does the sat nav include locations of speed cameras? Had this on the GTR and bought a Road Angel as the M5 doesn't have them.

Cheers

Had my LCi for nearly a year now (how time flies) & is to date the best all round car i've ever owned. The silly power & torque from the DMS Stage 2 are keeping any potential boredom at bay. SO many nice cars around in this price bracket & all have their relative merits. I really like the C7 RS6 but am not a fan of Estate cars as i don't need the space & when i bought the deals on M5's were epic but Audi were giving nothing away, however today the deals on the RS6 are about the same as on the F10 M5 currently.

No idea on question 1 but 99% sure the answer is No to question 2. Was a great feature of the GT-R's Nav to have Speed Cameras, but never seen it on any Audi.

1) I don't have the Quattro lower grille, but the moulded "mesh" behind the Quattro grille is of a smaller size so I would guess it is a different singleframe altogether.
2) No direct support for speed cameras, but the Audi sat nav system allows you to import up to 200,000 (?) personal POIs, including creating your own icons, so an internet search is bound to yield up someone who has used this facility for speed camera information (www.pocketgpsworld.com would be my starting place), I would think. I haven't seen any function on the sat nav that would provide an audible warning that you were approaching a POI, however, so you would be relying on spotting them as they appear on the map.
