RS6 Test Drive.

Post by John@mk » Fri Feb 27, 2015 6:26 pm

Hi Guys
Just popped over from the B8 forum to ask.
When you took your RS6 for a test drive how long did you get ..was it a quick drive on a given route or did you get maybe a much longer drive.
Just thinking if I'm going to spend a fair amount of wedge on a car is a ten minute test drive enough.Even trying to secure a test drive in the first place has been epic.

Cheers John.

How well do you know the dealer?

Half hour slot is a normal test drive.

As doodlebug says, build that relationship, and test drives are longer
For example, Audi lent me an Rs4 for a week, so i bought one. Therefore, they have no problem knowing that if they lend me a car for a few days, it's because I'm seriously considering one, they might get a sale out of it, and i'll look after it (to an extent)

There's a million factors in how they decide, but being a past customer is top of the list, and turning up in a chav mobile and demanding a longer drive without any length of enquiry is somewhere near the bottom

Also, of course, depends on how much the dealer wants your custom and whether they have a demo car there that is available (the decent ones often become the DP's company car, so wants is back at the end of the day to drive home in) or if they have to hire one in from AUK to lend you, which costs them a small fortune

Typically, the dealer standard test drives are about 30mins on a set route though

I was offered a car for a couple of days - but I knew the dealer and they knew that I was serious about ordering. Irritatingly, they had sold the demonstrator by the time I could find the time to take them up on the offer. In the end, the only test drive I managed to get was via an RS Open Day, organised by Audi UK, which the dealer signed me up for. I got about half an hour in a car, but that was enough to be honest (mainly because it was unaccompanied, so I could take it where I wanted and drive it how I wanted). All I really remember is brutal acceleration and the ability to put the power down safely on the public road.

It will be interesting on Sunday to see if the rest of the car matches up to my expectations...

I would say 10 mins to 30 mins would give you an idea of what it's like but not to really appreciate quite how good it is.

We had one for a day whilst our Q7 was being serviced and used it on our normal routine - by the end of the day the car had sold itself, wind forwards 3 months and picking up ours on Monday...

Relationship with the dealer counts for a lot I think, this is our 4th RS and 7th car in total from our local dealer so have a good working understanding.

See if you can get invited to an Audi Sport showcase event. They happen all round the country and they run a fleet of all RS, S and R8s for customers to try. Unaccompanied is where its at with these too!

I had a C7 out at the last one for nearly 40 minutes.

There will be another showcase this year too.

Relationship with dealer is key, everything Graeme said was spot on including hire costs from AUK. You can probably imagine the amount of people that want to borrow an RS/R8 with no intention of buying one, spoils it for the genuinely interested buyers sometimes as it means some dealers are apprehensive about loaning them.

Thanks for your input guys and get what you are saying about relationships with dealer BUT when a customer already drives a B8 RS4 and comes in for service and is talking to the sales team about a new car surely a penny must drop somewhere.
But as has already been pointed out maybe the dealer group just do not have a car to test drive anyway so in turn really potentially kissing good bye to at a £80k plus sale....
Even at Milton Keynes which is ment to be their flagship dealership when asked if they had a RS6 just to look at the sales man ( sorry lack of sales man) just said no and walked off!!!!!!!

So far. This has made buy a Porsche a complete walk in the park ......... They were so laid back they didn't even ask for the Middle payment when the car went into production .......

So hopefully hear next week if a test drive is on the cards but is does sound if even the salesman at Alyesbury Audi had to say pretty please .......but at least the wife can test drive a S4...... We shall see..

Sorry to go on a bit but in complete disbelief but do get what you guys are saying.... Cheers

Looks like you live near me then - was equally surprised during my vist that the new flagship MK dealership did not have an RS6 at all, especially as they made a big thing in the press at launch about the dedicated Audi Sport area...

Bedford Audi have their new group demo being registered soon, it was sitting in the compound ready to go

So took the RS6 out for a test drive a what a machine .. Really impressed and the car was for sale.it had a fairly good spec but not on par with my RS4 plus it was silver which for some reason was a big no no for me which strange as I already own another car in Silver... Maybe not a proper RS colour in my mind.
Did get as far as a trade in value for the RS4 but was offered no where near what it was worth.. Even came in lower the glass's guide .. A lot lower. But what was interesting the RS6 dropped 3k whilst we were on the test drive.

so before taking this any further some advise needed,

Has anybody bought a new RS6 and insured it on a drive way as at the moment Aviva will say it must be garaged if the purchase price is over £75K.

At the end of the day .... What a machine ...... :beerchug:
