Re: Dealer let me down - Delivery Mileage
I've heard cold performance on ceramic can be found wanting, and that they can also be a little "grabby" compared to steel when cold and in urban driving. More "on/off" than progressive.
Track and regular long fast road then I could see the benefit, possibly. Though what are they good for? 40/50k? And then replacement costs are not pleasant.
Its horses for courses though IMHO. If the car will be a regular daily drive and only the odd b road blast, the steels will be perfectly adequate IMHO. Serious fast road/track use and ceramics would be all but a necessity.

Discs should last life of car. If you track regularly then clearly life will be reduced.
However purchase cost of ceramics v the equivalent life expectancy of wave discs and their cost, ceramics soon add up.
They are fine from cold, IMO they have a better feel than steel.

They also let off hardly any brake dust so no pitting on your wheels from the dust build up.
Audi website says they will last upto 300,000km.

Re: Dealer let me down - Delivery Mileage
Ceramics do look good and the lack of brake dust is a bonus. Only slight negative apart from purchase price so I'm told is the lack of initial braking in the wet never heard of a problem when cold. If I could afford them I would have them on looks alone.
Re: Dealer let me down - Delivery Mileage
Ceramics look great and perform great. Drove a car with and without locally everyday driving as a normal car the steels are great much better than the C6 brakes well after getting out of it they did feel it. Also GTR V RS6 braking test steels win and GTR has great brakes and lighter, also RS7 V Porsche panemera turbo s again on standard steels shorter braking distance. The ceramics look fab and for track would be great but for most of us the steels are perfect trust me on this one, also a couple people I know who have had ceramics on the C7 did have some problems at first brakes catching fire another set having to be replaced etc. Also varsity had some issues with his when he got his car, not only once on a couple occasions.
Re: Dealer let me down - Delivery Mileage
Don't want to confuse anyone in fact I am a bit myself MY15 : MY15 facelift maybe MY16 Hahahah. Anyways I'm sure the current RS6 whatever u refer to that to will be available a bit longer than a few weeks ?. As the current finance offer etc is available on all cars delivered by march 31st 2015. And does anyone know when the facelift will be arriving. Because if the lights look which I think they will like the RS7's I much rather prefer the current style. Personal preference maybe, and why they won't retrofit the bloody brakes I don't know can't cost them that much and to make a customer happy after they cocked up the order, we pay 80,90,even over a 100k for crap service.
Re: Dealer let me down - Delivery Mileage
The ceramics discussion is a bit of a non-event.
If you can afford the option you have it, as it's an improvement on standard and on such a powerful, heavy car is very much worth it.
If you can't afford it, you don't get them.
No point arguing the merits, it only comes down to cost.

Re: Dealer let me down - Delivery Mileage
Cost was not the issue for me. I am an Audi fan boy
, I need an estate car and after having had a few lower powered Audi's decided to treat myself. There are extras that although I could have, I truly either didn't see a need or didn't like the way it was implement e.g, HUD.
Some know the cost of everything and the value of nothing...and boy do they like to brag about down the pub!

Kinda true Craig I understand where your coming from. But when your buying a 80,90,100k car don't think affordability is a problem. Some don't see the need for them some do either way both good ones obviously better just a personal preference.
Re: Dealer let me down - Delivery Mileage
It's not a question of cost, it's a question of return on investment. Fitting ceramic brakes makes the car look even more purposeful but I just cannot see that there is value in them on a road car that isn't tracked.
Personally, if the option existed, I would spend money on having some decent looking rear calipers on the steel rotors before I spent money on ceramic brakes. It's a real shame that Audi just fit some rubbish-looking floating calipers on the rear of this car. My wife's Porsche Cayman only cost half as much, but Porsche manage to make all four wheels look like they mean business by fitting fixed calipers front and rear. Of course, fixed rear calipers are also unnecessary for the public road, so I guess I am contradicting myself!

"RS6"..."return on investment" - : not two things commonly seen in the same sentence!

Re: Dealer let me down - Delivery Mileage
I dont think its the case at all. I think some people (like me) consider ceramics a bit of a waste of money unless regular track use is on the cards. Affordability probably only accounts for a minority of cases where steels are chosen over ceramic.
If somebody is speccing up an £80/90k car and then dithers over the affordability of the £6-8k addition of the ceramics, I'd question the affordability of the entire car IMHO.

Gtr has <beep> brakes standard [THUMBS UP SIGN] in my experience anyway hence why it was the first thing I upgradedM1R XE wrote:Ceramics look great and perform great. Re: Dealer let me down - Delivery Mileage
Exactly what I said chesterfield completely agree. If someone's buying a 80,90k car don't think the cost is a serious problem. If some people and most C7 I've seen have this the carbon pack that costs 4k if I'm right if they can spend 4k on some carbon bits I'm sure 8k brakes aren't too bad. But yeah let's leave this here and continue with the problem of the bloody dealers screwing up someone's order. A friend of mine went into Vauxhall bought his sister a used Corsa the good service and amount of stuff he got for a used 4k 08 plate Corsa was unbelievable paint work mint odd scratches not a problem we will fix them for u, and if u notice any more in the next week or so we will do them too. Also 2nd day clutch went as was 1 old lady Owner probably gave it a hard time that got replaced also and as a good will gesture free 2 year warranty on the car breakdown cover and 3 free services for a car that cost 4 grand and to get that service and stuff with it I just thought wow. I know it's dealer dependent etc but it just opened up my eyes to myself and other friends who have had Mercs Audis etc and was nothing like that experience. Oh and another thing always called back when asked to kept updated throughout, which we know the stealers are not good with yeah ill get back to you later today it's a Friday next thing you know haven't heard back until Monday. You get where I'm coming from tho everyone's opinions will be different and dealers but the guy spent 4k and was treated spot on calls service deal and were spending 90k if not more or less in some cases and in the OP's case treated like a complete idiot IMHO they're taking the biscuit with this one they know they're in the wrong it's on paper so just sell the customer what you were originally supposed to sell. Sorry for the rant but just wanted to let it out hahahaah.
