As a member was interested in my thoughts on both here you go.
My C63 is very well specced and the RS (pre-fl) was as well. I think decent spec in either is a huge must. So many cool options on the C63. 360 camera with loads of views, HUD (awesome), all the safety features, pan roof, exhaust, suspension, comfort pack, etc etc. RS has exhaust, suspension, seats, rear view camera, ali styling, tech pack high etc.
The RS 3 was a go-kart. Stupidly quick off the line and you can throw it into the corners and it would kick the ass out of pretty much everything. With the second decat removed the sound was brutal as well. The car was so capable but the map certainly made it that way. Without the map, in third gear it felt like it was always holding back and a torquey diesel could easily keep up.
The C63 is a completely different beast. It is an actual car. I.e. the quality is better, more space, loads more tech, much more refined, more comfortable, quieter on a cruise etc. The RS was just an animal. It attracted loads of bad attention as well and I’d find myself racing loads of other hot hatches.
In terms of the drive, well the RS would monster the C63 off the line. However in 2nd gear the C63 really picks up and shifts and doesn’t stop. The C63 traction control is really good and I don’t find myself wheel spinning everywhere like I expected, it just doesn’t pull as hard as the traction cuts the power. From second onwards it’s relentless and would probably see off the mapped RS (just). I’ve driven once in the wet and is was pretty good. Let’s wait until winter though when I’ll probably miss the Quattro.
Feeling the back end move around was slightly unnerving at first but now it’s quite fun. Need to be careful though.
I had my second cats deleted yesterday and now the sound is perfect. It’s really meaty and growly.
The RS gearbox is definitely quicker and you notice it on the downshifts. Up shifts with WOT then you can’t notice it.
Fuel economy is slightly better in the RS but surprisingly not that much different.
I miss the blistering pace low down of the RS and although the V8 is a better sound I do miss the 5 pot noise.
I bought the car from Sutherland cars near Bristol. Good bunch of lads who love a fast car. Got a stonking deal as well.
Remap gets an extra 100bhp which I’ll get in two weeks.
To sum up I’d say the RS is a lads car and the C63 is a mans car. As expected I suppose as they are aimed at different markets.
