It would always be a nagging doubt in my mind about plazma screen burn so im earing in favour of an LCD. Plazma used to offer a faster response on a larger screen but recently LCD has caught up this term. What size of Tv are u looking for as that will dictate which is better for u.

Samsung panels always get a good rep for the money. I've got a 32 and a 40 and I'm very happy with them. Don't get disapointed with the settings out of the box though, it gives an awful picture. Go on http://www.avforums.com/forums/index.php and have a good search around, you'll get some good advice on kit and settings.

Market leaders are Pioneer "Kuro" and personally i would buy that as they are undoubtably the best picture quality out there
The pricing is really good too!

If you can wait 6 months do so. Freeview are starting transmissions of HD in July. Yes you can buy a seperate box but they will be supplying TV's with built in HD freeview soon.

The existing freeview box will not receive HD.

I can second the Panasonic LCD's and the Plasmas, particularly the Vierra Plasma Model 42 inch at 1080P. My uncle does most of the repairs under warranty for the major companies, and he has this in his house. He recommends it by far over all the rest. Access time of this unit is 0.001 which is by far better than anythign out on the market.

They go for £1299 in comet but you get online at other places cheaper, but you can check out the specs there.

Id normally go for an LCD over a plasa, but after using this Plasma, Id have to go for this. Worth the money!!!!

At that size I'd definitely consider a LCD panel

Just on a side note I believe the plasma screens are a lot heavier.

When I was considering this issue I took up a temporary subscription to Which, which you can do for about £1.95 for three months. It's not a lot of money for some independent reviews on this and all manner of stuff. I ended up with an LCD Sony because it's compatible with a Sony DVD system I have through which I run Sky. Been pretty pleased with it, with non HD Sky.

Go with the panasonic LCD 37 inch then. PANASONIC TX-37LZD80 Or if you want somethinh smaller, go with the 32 inch version but make sure it has the 1080 resolution for full HD on board.

Panasonics use certain parts from B&O units so definitely excellent onthe quality side.

I have a 27" LCD Panasonic Viera in the bedroom and 32" LCD Sony Bravia in the lounge. Both are great tellies. I always thought that LCD was better in smaller format and plasma's took over on the bigger stuff however all of Sony's products are LCD and all good if not a little over priced. For a balance between quality and price would buy Panasonic.

I just got the Sony KDL32d3000. I am very please with it.

It looked tiny beside all the other 40"+ screens in John Lewis but once I got it home its perfect for the siz of my room as I only sit about 3m away.

Plus the Avforums link Jarv posted will help also. You will find peoples reviews and settings help. I would look for the TV set you are after and then find the cheapest deal and get a pricematch with John Lewis as you get a 5 year guarantee.

Thats other peoples price matches.
