4k TV

Post by b7rs4saloon » Sat Dec 13, 2014 9:16 pm

Looking for a new TV, currently got a 42 samsung HD.

Going to put that in my bedroom as my 32 died. Had a look at TV''s to say, totally confused! Prob looking for 55", the new samsung look good. What's the score with curved, 3D, 4k etc. minefield!!!

Looking for help?

If you go 4k you need as a minimum 4k blu Ray player as well, otherwise little point. Ideally you need 4k compliant kit across the board plus it's a revised HDMI standard, so any buried cables may have to be changed.

Re size go and look at some, 42 to 55 is quite a jump. If it's wall mounted bear in mind you may start having to crane your neck looking up.

Not sure I understand the curved arrangement.

Loewe for me, but then I've had a few now.

Personally I hate the curved sets,

The distortions that are inherrent in the screen are too big a compromise and if you have people who may end up watching the screen from more than about 60 degrees depending on where you site the thing then they will suffer greatly - not a deal breaker for many but something to consider - and dont be fooled by the demo in store, its almost entirely cinema spec CGI based in order to make the thing look good.

4K is all well and good but you wont get much use out of its benefit for a few years and frankly you may as well wait for the manufacturers to get the thing really popping with the next generation of sets unless you are a "must have" kind of guy.

Traditionally Pioneer were best and they got bought by Panasonic, who have since won lots of awards using the pioneer tech, I wouldnt touch LG or Samsung with a shitty stick for my own use, as I rate substance over style, but then I do this stuff for a living so maybe am the wrong person to ask !!

Latest Panny 4K I installed a few weeks ago was stunning - 55inch and had edge to edge picture to die for.

Just my 2p

Pioneer's AV kit has put me right off. It's clunky, the Bluray firmware is full of bugs and the remotes, not that I use them are <beep>. I'll not be buying Pioneer again. Not to say they aren't making good TVs.

I've just ordered a Sony 55" 4k. It's the X85 series one. Main reason being I get a 28% discount on Sony through work plus it came with a free soundbar kit and 5 year warranty.

I've got a Samsung 55" and the size is brilliant, I've a big open plan kitchen and living room and with it the other end of the room, 8 meters away Id guess, it's still crystal clear! I did have a 42" and it wasn't really watchable!

So if you're going to watch it from 4 meters or 8, the 55" is spot on!

What about LG OLED?

Il be honest, I'm only interested in picture quality, obviously 4k is good, however no channels are 4k and won't be for some time.

I want the TV to replace my existing, def looking at 50" plus, only really to watch TV & films. Not that bothered about 3D, smart, or fancy gadgets, Do not do gaming etc, Iv got a stand alone audio system so audio is taken care of.

Thanks

Sorry to hijack but I am also after some advice, have recently finished my house finally, I need a 65 inch, 40 inch and a 30 inch, quite like Samsung.

I have the whole house wired with cat 6 going back to a hdmi matrix, linked up to Sonos soundsysten so not bothered about the sound quality. Smart capabilities would be nice and also not fussed on 3d, cheers for any help or advice

If you sit more than a foot away from the screen, your eyes can't see a difference between HD and UHD on a 55" screen.

Curved is just a gimmick.

Personally,

I dont fit anything other than Panasonic these days for my customers, purely down to image quality - you dont buy a TV for its sound quality, just like you dont choose a car for the tyre brand its fitted with from the factory !!

For me OLED has to much ringing and fringing.

If you want a good picture and don't want to spend big bucks, you should seriously check this link out ... http://www.very.co.uk/panasonic-tx-p50x ... 706429.prd

It's an older model with a slightly thicker bezel but it's plasma (which as we all know is light years ahead in both picture quality and response times over LCD, LED, OLED etc...) :assflash: = you get a lot of screen for your money.

4k TV's are all well and good but they suffer from being pretty poor at upscaling 1080p / 1080i content at the minute, plus there's jack all available in terms of 4k content.

Just my 2p worth
