SO near yet so far

Matched 5 numbers in the midweek lotto last night and so very nearly became a millionaire. Irish lottery with the jackpot at €6.2m, I'd have been happy.
Funny thing is, I dreamt I'd won a sizeable prize, then woke up, logged on to my account and saw a "big prize notification" notice. Heart-stopping moment (good way to start my birthday though) when I wondered "how big is big.....?"
Not the big one but oh so very nearly was. What would've been a fleet of new Audis for me and my family is now instead an almost complete set of new tyres for my C5.
Anyone else had a similar experience, so close you could almost taste it type of thing?

I dreamt I pulled a really, and I mean REALLY FIT woman. F*ck my luck hey.
I don't win anything. I can sit at a machine in Vegas for 25 mins and get nothing, the wife will then have ago on it and win the money. At the roulette wheel we take it in turn and I will pretty much always lose, the wife will win.
Congrats on your win.
Now, what tyres are you going to buy???

Went to the states for 4 weeks in 1995 having set up 3 weeks of lotto to run each Saturday ( you know, back in the days when it was still quite new and you really thought you might win big). Got back, checked the numbers on ceefax as the Internet was not so big or available then, nearly dropped my load when reading 5 + the bonus against my ticket. Checked and checks again, then noticed the numbers were from week 4 which I had not ticked!!!
£250k 19 years ago would have meant a lot of metal for a then 22 year old!
If anything, it inspired me to work really hard to achieve more in my career!

Okay, your story takes the biscuit. Would've been kicking myself too if it was a case of having not ticked that extra box.
Tyres will be Michelins. They feel good......

I got lucky around my 30th birthday (12 years ago now...), I used to buy my tickets in the 8 week blocks then and use the same numbers (don't do that anymore). Anyway, 2 weeks before my birthday i lost my 3 week old ticket. After turning the house upside down i came to the conclusion i had thrown it out, so being paranoid that i'd miss a win i bought another ticket (8 weeks and same numbers). So on my birthday i check my numbers (also on Ceefax in those days) and had 5 numbers come up, not the jackpot but just over £2500 was better than a poke in the eye. It's a few days later you realise that the bonus ball would have got me £380k and the other number £4.5 Mill.
So a couple of weeks later i'm washing my dressing gown (don't ask), i find the old ticket which obviously has the 5 numbers on it too. One happy chappie i can tell you. I'd like to say i spent my money wisely but i'd be lying, as the great George Best said; I spent it on booze, gambling and women and wasted the rest....
