Currently own a TAG 4000 that I bought back in the mid 90's as my first proper watch and have been quite fond of it; using it as my daily wear for a good 15 years. Trouble is that I don't wear a watch that much nowadays and being an automatic it needs winding up every time I go to use it and I feel that the crown wheel will start to suffer because of this fact.

Here it is:

Anyway the opportunity arose yesterday for me to buy a piece on a limited production run of 50 Breitling Aerospace for F15 pilots - I've provided aircrews with photos of them flying at low altitude a few times, hence the connection and let’s face it - to also make the numbers up. But I like it and suits my needs for an infrequent wear that can be just put on and go out. There is no mark up on the watch as the Squadron is just paying the Breitling production run price and dividing it out by 50 pieces, which makes it a reasonable £1850.
Any thoughts? I'm thinking of fitting a genuine black leather strap instead of the titanium one it comes with.

I posted a reply to this but it was lost into the ether.
Watches are personal, while this isn't my bag, it is Ti so it'll feel beautiful on the wrist. I had a PO Ti Chronograph but it was stolen, I never once thought about swapping out the bracelet because it was just so light.
Any LM watch can go either way on depreciation/appreciation but it doesn't sound like you're after it for that reason, looks a good buy. Do it.

My Omega Diver 300m Chrono is on Ti - love a Ti watch. Omega stopped making the Ti version as it never sold - wearers wanted the Stainless to feel the weight of the purchase on their wrist...

Breitling is not really my bag either, but it's all about personal taste with a watch. A black strap over the Ti strap would look odd a bit odd to me. But that aside, and at that cost, I'd do it too. Sounds like you want to wear it Sam as opposed to allow it to grow in value so just go for it...

I have a Breitling Aerospace, pretty much same as the F15 watch above but with a leather strap. Looked lovely in the Shop but after getting it home I dont like the analog/ digital face, I also cant figure out how to turn the bloody alarm off. I've been looking for a metal bracelet for a while to see if maybe that changes my mind. I have a Navitimer to but I'm starting to go off that, fancy one of those Emergency ones in black metal with a colored face.

Here's mine. Usually stays on the metal bracelet. It's a proper workhorse of a watch and gets regularly bashed against stuff. The plastic 'crystal' can take loads of abuse. Quick polish and it's like new again:

(sorry - couldn't help it! I know it has nothing to do with the OP's question  )

Snap, I've got the same fork tool!
Is that the 'sapphire sandwich' professional model?

So need a Speedie.

Everyone needs a speedy!

Mine's the 3570.50 with the hesalite (plastic) crystal, not the sapphire sandwich. Just like the ones they used in space. I don't think the sapphire crystal looks quite right: it's too flat and you get a milky edge that does my head in. If you're going to get a speedy pro I think it has to be hesalite for the full effect. Having said that, some folks think the distortion from the hesalite make the watch look cheap. Feels nice to touch and it's a sinch to polish out scratches yourself.

I would've like the crystal back to see the movement, ala sapphire sandwich but you can't get them with hesalite in the front. The front sapphire on the 9300 movement Speedmaster has a lovely curved sapphire crystal on it that doesn't have the same flaw as the 'sapphire sandwich' speedy pro. I nearly bought that instead.

Yeah, the 9300 Speedie pro is 'the one' but the sandwich is pleasantly rare. Then I'm always trying to get my head around living with a manual wind for the real Speedie experience. Just can't do it, although I love the idea of it.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Made in the USA... what do they know about watches?!?!?

I secretly wanted an Oakley Hollowpoint last time I was over in the US.

I dropped into Devon yesterday, they had a whole bunch of SW stuff but the shop looked like a Swatch franchise from the late 90s, not something I'd buy a £20k hand-clock from.
/EDIT it was Nixon. That makes more sense now.

Here is my speedy pro on a momentum camel nato strap. Its a tritium lume model too, so the hour markings have a nice bit of yellowing to them :)
