I did exactly this too. Mine was a mint Omega Speedmaster day/date (moon watch). My son is 9 this year, so only 9 more years and it's his.

For me, a good example at the right price will always hold their value or increase...

I love Speedies, every watch collection needs a Speedie.

Try putting it on dark leather...

I love my PO had to wait a while to finally get it on my wrist a mere 45yrs !!!! My son has always wanted a nice watch so I said when you get your first proper job choose the watch I will buy it and you can pay it off monthly. The day he got his first pay packet as a 16yr old apprentice sparky he chose his Breitling. Something nice to show for him getting up at 5am every morning.

Nice winder. My butler would love me to get one of those, he hates having to wind my collection.

His technique doesn't involve popping one on the wrist and a 30min session on RedTube then?

Ok, bumping this to ask you horologists (is that the correct term?) for an opinion.

Currently own a TAG 4000 that I bought back in the mid 90's as my first proper watch and have been quite fond of it; using it as my daily wear for a good 15 years. Trouble is that I don't wear a watch that much nowadays and being an automatic it needs winding up every time I go to use it and I feel that the crown wheel will start to suffer because of this fact.

Here it is:

Image

Anyway the opportunity arose yesterday for me to buy a piece on a limited production run of 50 Breitling Aerospace for F15 pilots - I've provided aircrews with photos of them flying at low altitude a few times, hence the connection and let’s face it - to also make the numbers up. But I like it and suits my needs for an infrequent wear that can be just put on and go out. There is no mark up on the watch as the Squadron is just paying the Breitling production run price and dividing it out by 50 pieces, which makes it a reasonable £1850.

Any thoughts? I'm thinking of fitting a genuine black leather strap instead of the titanium one it comes with.
