Advice wanted on selling a RS4 saloon
Advice wanted on selling a RS4 saloon
Hi guys
I am looking for some advice on selling my B7 saloon after owning for the last 6 1/2 years. It is a lovely 07 plate in sprint blue and has only 63k on the clock - FSH etc and certainly well driven and looked after by me.
The car is generally tidy inside and out - I have rarely had anyone in the back and no pets etc. It does need a little work on scuffs to the rear bumper and a partial badge replacement on the front. It also currently has the engine light on - local garage replaced lambda sensor and it came back on. They said it was an ignition problem and I would need to take it to Audi. I am slightly averse to Audi wanting £186 to diagnose the fault before they start fixing it, but the engine light is a bit of a turn off for potential buyers.
So... the question I have is whether to pay to get bodywork and ignition issue fixed and then sell privately, or take a hit on the price and part ex with Audi. Ideally I'd be looking at an enthusiast to buy the car privately and organise any jobs needed. Alternatively I can put my hand in my pocket and resolve any outstanding items, but if I do end up part-exing, I will have paid full retail price for repairs a dealer could have paid 50% for.
I am not an expert but I do like a nice car. I am looking for an RS3, either new or 56 plate, but can't quite work out the best way to sell the RS4.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Simon

Depends how much a couple of grand is worth to you.
If not a lot, then either px it or list it cheap for someone on here
Post some pics of the car

You have a saleable car but the EPC light will put 99% off. Get it sorted.
Maybe someone with VCDS can help and pull the codes for you.

Is the ignition problem to do with the push start by any chance and the car chugging into life ?
Re: Advice wanted on selling a RS4 saloon
Thanks, you are probably right. Just wondered if there was likely to be people who could diagnose and resolve, and/or this was a common fault.Surrey Sam wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2017 10:03 pmYou have a saleable car but the EPC light will put 99% off. Get it sorted.

Don't know, only that the diagnostics showed it was ignition related. Should have made a note of the code as Audi will charge me £186 to run the diagnostics. My local garage may re-run for the cost of a few drinks. If so, I'll post the results.

You won't sell it with the engine light on in a private sale.
I would fix the engine issue, and then sell it privately...
but if you can't be bothered, then part ex, just lose out on a few grand.....

When I had mine a few years ago I had the same issue. Dealer I bought the car from Swapped the lambda and eml stayed on.
Turned out they used an aftermarket lambda which could be the case here.

Re: Advice wanted on selling a RS4 saloon
Have now booked into Wimbledon Audi service centre. They charge £60 for a diagnostic check as opposed to £186 by West London Audi (Sytner), which seems a bit steep on the basis that this is on top of any cost to resolve the problem.
Thanks for all advice received. I'll get the small jobs sorted and offer via a private sale through this forum. While it would be convenient to part-ex, the Audi main dealers seem a little allergic to offering anything like a fair price. I'll post some pics once it is 100% again plus an update on how I get on with the service centre.
