Harris sums it up!

Pretty much as i see it and expected really, lots of settings but none perfect unlike the b7s get in and go! No further advance in performance and you have to work it harder unlike the b7.He comments its better handling than the RS5 but how can we be 5+ years on and be playing catch up to a b7?

Yep, and it makes me think.. Why would i want one of these over a low mileage used approved RS6.....?

By the sounds of it you have to wring its neck to get the benefit of that and on the road you will have x minimal amounts of time to do it..
Plus, sorry.. Ok i know not everyone has.. But i have a Caterham, so for me.. It makes me think..

The S6 looks awesome in terms of spec and performance. I specced one on th configurator and it came to 76k though. Won't handle as well as the RS4 though. The gadgets make up for it though as well as tuning potential.

Quite interesting - Chris's Twitter earlier today said he looks forward to driving one on UK roads on std 19" rims and with the non DRC and non adjustable steering. I get the feeling this would be less fiddly to get in and drive?

hence why DRC and Dynamic steering are options (they were standard on the mk1 RS 5 - so perhaps Audi have learned)

I hope so although B7 had DRC and we all know it handled very tidily indeed...

I personally like the idea of a stripped of the nonsense RS4 Avant with a manual shift. Oh. Wait a minute... That would be a B7...

Come on Audi a make one like this for fans?

But they have the multi mode suspension as standard - drc does not add any extra configuration options that I'm aware of.

TBH DRC as an option is absolutely crazy. All well and good saying "it's got cruise control and rain wipers as standard"... Yeah well, so has a prius.
I'd rather it had DRC as standard than anything else.

I just can't shake the money men rubbing their hands together.
They know the two things that made the B7 RS4 desirable is the DRC (when working) and bucket seats. Just look at the "what to look for..." type threads and see that buckets are high up the list.
Am surprised the FBSW isn't charged for!
Now both are cost options totalling a cool £3,845 on top of the £54,295 OTR price makes a starting point of £58,140.

Now the B7 RS4 from my research ended up
RS4 avant basic price £51,019
Delivery £577
Technology pack + 6CD 2,295
Auto Dim RV mirror/DRL 200
Buckets £0
£54,091
Now granted, inflation would mean that in 2006 £54,091 would be approx £61,122 in todays money.
However, the B7 RS4 was a limited run in a bespoke factory - the B8's are rolling off a standard production line as far as I'm aware so costs will be lower.

I thought it was !

Are you (and others) suggesting that the car would be better without these options?

I will reserve my final judgment on one these until I drive one, I was genuinely planning on ordering one in NZ if it was amazing but now due to insane pricing levels in NZ and the good but not amazing reviews I think it will be a 'used' option in a few years for me if I get on with one. Once again I'll let emotion do the talking when it comes to how I feel when driving it. I can forgive a lot if I still grin when looking and driving a car even if it could be 'better', I doubt I am the only one who will think like this.

Unfortunately in the end Audi are a business and the genuine enthusiasts like most of us are probably small fry in the grand scheme of their sales. If they can trade on their heritage or the RS badge a shift these cars to those who see them as a status symbol or simply buy them because they can while maintaining pretty good margins then they will. I dont believe it is a good strategy, IMO they should always strive to be better than their rivals within reason, as they appear to not be doing this it will ultimately harm them. Just imagine if AMG or BMW start bring out 4wd versions, that will really shake things up.

In the end the reviews are not 'bad' so thats a good thing :thumb:
