So the owners manual says to use VW 504 or 502 depending on the service schedule. Does anyone know what grade that translates into please? E.g 5w 40?

Is there a particular make of engine oil you guys recommend?

It's 5W30

I've been using Fuchs Titan in my B7 for the last 9 years but alot of people use Castrol Edge.

Lots of selection here:

I always thought the recommended VAG oil for our cars was VW 504.00 507.00
Castrol Edge 5 30w is the longlife oil many Audi garages recommend and use irrespective of which service regime you are on. At my local dealership, if the customer questions the cost of the oil, they are sometimes offered Quantum as an alternative to keep the cost down.
It's not just the viscosity or type of oil that matters; the ACEA and API grading needs to be also considered. Not all oils are the same, even though the viscosity might be.

In Germany a lot of guys have moved away from the long life oils due to the residues in the engine (intake manifold).

I run Rowe HIGHTEC SYNTH RS SAE 5W-40 which I change every 10t kms or once a year. A lot of fellow RS4 and RS5 owners use this oil.
