What’s the leak from?

Posting for a friend who has a B8 with about 50K miles on the clock.

He noticed some oil in the engine bay, topside of the engine. Initially he assumed it was from when he topped up his oil but now thinks it’s dripping from this bit. He has it booked in to be looked at but asked me for my opinion but I’m not sure what it is from. Running my fingers around it, it smells of oil with a whiff of petrol.
What is this circled bit? See both pics below.

That's the fuel pressure regulator, they die.

Just had the same one die on mine.

Yep, fuel pressure regulator for each bank of cylinders.

Shouldn’t be oil leaking from this

Isn't it just fuel and dirt off the engine cover mixing?

The part is actually called a high pressure fuel pump, here are all the part numbers you might need.

Just an update as much as a thank you to everyone. It was the high pressure fuel pump which is now being replaced apparently . Once again, a big thank you to everyone.
