One of the frustrating aspects of the power tailgate, is that you can't close it via the Key.
So after many hours trying to see if there was a way to code the feature via VCDS (not possible) I found this Bexpro CTM1 module advertised. It claimed to do exactly what I wanted, which was to allow me to press and hold the key fob tailgate button for 2 sec and the tailgate then closes, it also allows you to do the same via the driver’s door switch. All for what I thought was a fairly reasonable 65 EUR.
It came very quickly from Germany and you then need to send an email for instructions, this didn't happen over the weekend just gone. But I duly received an email in the next working week with a username/password to download some German PDF documents. The email body did however contain some rough English guidelines, so a quick study of a wiring diagram to make sure and I was good to go.
All installed this evening and it works like a charm.
Edit - Video and some installation instructions are further on in this thread

Hi Sam
I found this frustrating too. I had BM before my RS4 and I could do this from the remote.
Was it hard to wire in or was it a plug in type modification? Was the wire done at the tailgate or somewhere else in the car? I take it you done it yourself?
This sounds like a 65 EUR well spent

Brilliant - also interested. How handy do you need to be to install it and where does it get installed?

Is this really not possible with VCDS? I thought someone would of figured it out by now unless it is a hardware restriction.
Lazy tw@ts, just use your hands. Or is it a dick swinging thing?
Definitely supermarket carpark one-upmanship, milfs love it. On the practical side, more so at this time of year. It stops your hands getting dirty and then transferring it to trousers/steering wheel. Also if a little person gets something out the boot and can't close it, you can without having to get off the heated seat.

Hi guys.
Yes I did this myself. It's not plug and play as you need to do a little wire loom stripping, to get the right wires to tap into. But you only need to remove the rear tailgate panel to gain access, so it's not hard if you've removed trim panels before and can solder wires together. I'll pop some pictures up later today to try help people gauge if it's DIY'able or not.

Technology...you C5 guys should try it.
Us C5 lot just take one of the gas struts off! Bingo. How do you get in the drivers door?

Right, got the images off my phone and created some guidelines to help anyone intrested in this.
Click on the images for full resolution:
ElsaWin instructions to remove the tailgate trim panel.

Label BexPro Harness
Label harness
Unravel wiring harness to expose necessary wires to splice and solder into
Tailgate Loom
Solder connections - Cover your boot floor with an old rug to protect from any solder spilage otherwise it could burn through your carpet.
Connect the Black and Brown first which should power module, then connect Red to the tailgate lock wire as per diagram. Turn the ignition on and press the tailgate unlock button. The module should blink quickly as it takes the signal. Now turn the ignition off and connect up remaining wires, except the orange which should be isolated. Use good quality electrical tape to wrap solder joints.
Soldered connections
Re-wrap wiring harness using fabric tape - Tesa manufacture some.
Re-wrap Loom
Re-assemble trim panel and locate BexPro module - I stuck it inside the offside rear light access hole, using a cut down double sided padded number plate Sticker.
