Initialised Keys

Just got my 2014 RS4 from an Audi dealer, love the car! Today I was talking with a policeman who stopped to admire it and was saying they have had a few stolen in my area. That got me thinking, could there be more keys out there other than the two I have. The cars settings say that there are 3 keys for the car, two I have (remotes) and I assume the third should be a plastic valet key. I removed the key case in the glove box, but I don't have this plastic key.

So the question is this:- can I delete the all the keys and add back only the ones I have myself, or does the dealer need to do this for me?

Thanks.

Yes you can and should delete all keys and get just the ones you have in your possession added.

I ran into the same issue with my Avant, and did exactly that.

I had the same issue, my 15 plate says3 Keys, the plastic key from glove box is missing as the previous owner took it out and then lost it.
It doesn't worry me but I'm sure Audi computer can delete it from the car and leave the 2 you have initialised

Hi Simell.
If you recent purchased this from Audi direct they should have provided you will all 3 keys including the plastic one. Even if the car was given to them with two. If you go back to them and let them know it may have been something they over looked. I purchase mine direct from Audi in April this year and they were great sorting out a couple of bits and pieces I noticed post picking up the car.
Picture of my pride and joy attached :)
Cheers

Hi Cliff, did Audi manage to get a duplicate plastic wallet key for you ? I was told it could not be replaced.

Good point, I have emailed about it and will let you know the outcome, but yes I guess as the car is only a couple of years old and wasn't an inexpensive one, I suppose they should sort it for me.

My spare was intact to be fair. It was other things they sorted. But my assumption would always be that is kind of why you buy from Audi so all of those kind of thing are not an issue. You may be right and this cannot be source if it is lost but they would always be my first port of call. And if they can't source it they should be de registering that other key and no cost to you

The 3 initialised keys displayed are:

x2 Remote Key Fobs
x1 Plastic Wallet/Emergency Key

The plastic remote shell located in the glove box side is for the Wallet/Emergency Key, so that it can then be inserted into the dash to enable starting the car. Be sure to keep those two separated and not left in the car, otherwise a thief could just break in and use the plastic key to have your car away.

If an initialised key is missing, get them erased and a replacement coded back to the vehicle. Otherwise your insurance could be invalidated.
