Potential Purchase - 1st Service at 28k miles?

Hi All,

I'm currently on the hunt for a B8 RS4. I have put a deposit down on an approved used Audi MY15 car. However, when they finally sent through the service report it appears that the first oil service was not carried out until 28k miles. Admittedly the previous owner racked up that mileage in the first 15months, but this still seems way off the recommended 2 year or 19k mile maximum on the flexible service plan. What are your experiences / thoughts on this?

The car is currently being prepped at Audi and will be subjected to a full 40k mile service, with brake fluid, diff, pan roof, airc-con etc services completed prior to pick-up.

Many thanks in advance,

Chee

2 Years or 19k whichever comes first. Gearbox oil in front final drive, should also be replaced at 20k miles.

I'd walk away personally.

If they can't be bothered to adhere to a simple service schedule, then would they warm up the engine before using the performance for instance? I'd also be concerned that any warranty work could be rejected on that basis, as the engine & gearbox have not been serviced in accordance with the manufacturer specification.

+1

The service schedule on these cars is critical. Oil ages with age and usage. that car must have had a service light on way before that. only question would be, has it been serviced elsewhere and not updated on the electronic service schedule? ask to see paperwork...but I'd walk away too. There are plenty of cars around.

i feel the same, too much hassle to be had if any future warranty problems occur,
there have been a couple on here who have purchased approved with not the correct service history and had major issues with problems down the line,
as others had said-theres plenty around to choose from ,,,,
\all the best with your decision

Check it hasn’t been done elsewhere before thinking of walking. Audi only reports Audi services. Mine was done by an indy between services

Many thanks for the responses guys. I'm unsure on how to go about finding out if had been serviced in the interim, as the guy trading it would not have told Audi as it would then not have FASH. I also left £1k deposit, so if I were to bail how do I get my deposit back? The Audi salesman is adament that there is nothing wrong and the year warranty that comes with the car is watertight. Even if this were true, it will still be an issue when it comes to selling on - as the provenance of the vehicle has been lost right at the beginning of its life. The car has an amazing spec, but it is a lot of money to spend if it is not right.

Thanks again,

Chee

s-tronic will not be valid for warranty without correct service schedules 20k intervals. Audi will refuse or only contribute to cost. Ask them to extend warranty on gearbox and get it in writing that they will warrant in full with the poor service history. If not, they can't sell under audi's approved used car scheme, hence get your deposit back.

Not having FASH isn’t an issue. Not having a FSH is. Deposit wise, it’s your money, legally they can’t keep it. Even if it’s just a change of heart from you. I can’t remember exactly when this came in to play, but it has been there for a while. I’ll caveat that with that that may only be for new cars... worth a google though. Also, if you paid on a credit card, you’re covered under section 75.

Where is this car?

Have you seen the car or did you buy over the phone?

Thanks again guys. I have seen the car and went for an extensive test drive and everything was fine prior to putting my deposit down. The dealership was closing so the deal was a little rushed, hence why I didn't get chance to go through the service record there and then.

I don't think the car has a lack of service history, as it had diff, final drive and gearbox oils changed at 31k miles and now a major service is being done at ~42k miles. It is just the first oil service and inspection was carried out late at 28k miles. I don't really want to identify the dealer at the moment.

I did pay the deposit on a credit card, so is good to know that I'm more covered than if I didn't.

Thanks,

Chee

You need to get in writing that they will honour the warranty if anything goes wrong. The original 3 year warranty would have been void due to the late service, I'm not sure how that impacts the after market warranty. Don't take their word for it, you must get it in black and white. M3's etc can't be sold by BMW if they miss their first running in service.

That service is due at 19k. so that is over 50% past the service schedule. on a component that is not only notoriously fragile, but one that costs a small fortune to replace should it fail - i have heard c. £10k - I wouldn't touch it at all...

There really are plenty of cars available just now.

Avoid, someone on another site had gearbox failure in a similar situation with third party warranty, long story short they didn't pay out!
