Odd sound

Post by RjmRS4 » Wed Jul 19, 2017 12:14 pm

Hi,

I have just purchased a 2014 RS4. I am loving the car but have noticed a noise when changing down gears. Normally happens from 5th to 4th. This happens in auto and manual mode. The sound is like a clunk or a solenoid shutting. Apart from the noise the car drives fine and no warnings on the dash. Any ideas what it could be?

Cars warranty runs out in October this year. But got it second hand from Audi so have a full years warranty. Currrently on holiday in France with the car. So will book it into my local Audi when I get home.

Do you think they would also replace heavily pitted exhaust covers under warranty as well?

The exhausts tips have been replaced as a good will gesture in the past but not guaranteed. Some dealers entertain it some don't, no harm in asking. Mine have taken 50k miles to start going, some have taken 5k miles.

Car has just done over 50k. So will ask them when I take it after my holiday. Just hope the noise is not something to serious as have over 1,000 miles to do before we get home.

Car is in my local Audi and they have just called to say that the issue is with the gearbox with 4th and will need a new gearbox. Bad news is that the last owner didn't get the gearbox oil changed when he sold it. The Audi garage did the change but the car had done 49,000 miles. The oil should of been done at 40,000. So there is a possibility that Audi might reject the warranty claim. Am hopping that is not the case. If that does happen I will be going back to the Audi garage I bought it from for them to either fix the car free of charge or request my money back. So a bit annoyed and nervous ATM...

Bit of an update.

Audi have rejected the warranty claim due to the oil being changed late. I spoke to the garage I got the car from and they have agreed to swap the car and currently coming up with the options I have. But have a feeling I won't find a car with the same spec as mine. But am a bit happier I won't be stung with having to replace the gearbox. But now just unsure what I will get instead.

What a night mare, stick with it and do your best to get the closest spec possible,
Bloody nightmare, these gear box oils should be part of the main service etc, if the cars got fsh it doesn't make sense.

How often should the brake fluid be replaced ? These items get forgotten about

Car is being picked up by the dealer on Monday and getting a17 plate S6 saloon as a temporary car. They said it could take 4-6 weeks to resolve the issue. So just have to see what happens and chase them once a week.

Does the gearbox oil flag up on the car display? Just had the full history for the car I bought sent through. Car was bought with full service history but the digital history does not display in detail what has been done!
