Folks,
I got a quote to change the font pads; £389 all inclusive with local Audi Garage. Just wondering if anyone got it done lower at Audi?
Brake pad lights came on a few days ago. Also wondering, at what brake pad level do lights come on? 10% left on
pad?
Car has done 30k miles, first change to pads and was told that discs look fine from a previous visual inspection weeks ago.
Cheers

Buy the pads elsewhere, bring it to me and I'll change them for free. You won't even have chance to make a cup of tea before I'm done.

I need to do/get mine done but not paying Audi prices. I'd be interested to know how much you get quoted for front pads only?
BTW - I only paid £30 to get my rears changed at local Audi independent a few months back

I've queried my brakes on here before when I was told by audi both front pads and discs should be renewed at 11,000 miles despite the warning light not being on.
I never had them done at the time and now the car has done 16,800 miles and has just gone through its 2 year inspection service. They again have told me they are heavily worn and the only reason the warning light is not on is because there is only one sensor on the front and one on the rears and that the one with the sensor is not as worn as the one with the sensor.
They again recommended renewing both discs and pads as due to the lip on the edge of the disc it would cause vibration through the pedal if just the pads were done. Audi don't allow them to be skimmed.
I still feel my car has pretty low miles to need both discs and pads. It does do mainly town driving rather than motorway miles but it doesn't get driven very hard often due to having too kids in the back.
The dealer is one I know well and they seem genuine but I still find it u usual to need them so soon. They say it's typical for an RS model. I just wonder if this is true or them being over cautious?
I've got a couple of decent audi specialists nearby that I've never tried before but wonder if they are worth a try.
Any one on here from Central Scotland who have used any of the independents?

I find the best thing to do is get in your hands and knees and look at the pads and disks...it's obvious to the naked eye if they are worn/need replacing.
I'm from central Scotland (live in Fife now) and use star performance for all my maintenance on the rs, and the s3 before it. Can highly recommend for price and quality.

I've been looking you can see at least 5mm of pad material before the backing plate, not sure what the limit would be considered to be?
Discs look fine to me. There is a slight lip on the outer edge where they've worn but doesn't seem too bad to me. The drivers side seems to have more of a lip than the other side interestingly.
Anyone used AVW AUTOCENTRE in Edinburgh or Autohaus also in Edinburgh?
Both seem experienced Audi techs with lots of RS and R8 experience, thinking of giving them a try since I've got a few jobs pending at 20,000
Air filters
Engine oil
Front diff oil
Front pads & discs (apparently)
Rear pads (as advised by Audi)

I had to get pads done as they were 80% worn and would fail my MOT funny i did not get any warning light
but they were not bad price wise £270 but another 98 quid to fit but i did have a oil service brake fluid changeas well on the day
but the total for the day was £945

I only mention it (as you may know already - sorry if so) but pad material thickness isn't even checked on an MOT. Only brake performance. If they're low but not down to the wear indicators then they're probably still fine. Obviously it's personal choice of course!

The initial was that one of the fronts was binding and they tried to get me to replace the disks as well but I new there was plenty of disk left and then there tack changes to there is a lip forming on the disk and I said I would deal with that but was unaware that they did not check the pad wear for mot but will know next time
I will be taking the disks off and grinding off the lips

Yip I was told the lip might cause vibration if I don't change both the discs and pads together.
Not sure I agree, seems excessive to change discs at 17000 miles!
Think I'll have someone else look and get a second opinion.
For those who gave done pads only, any problems?
