Data sim
This will apply to the c7 boys too
Just putting it out there that I pay £4.95 a month for a 2gb a month data plan on "the people's operator". They are a virtual network using EE so coverage is very good.
I have no connection, but have had no issues since getting the sim 9 months ago and thought it worth sharing.
Enjoy.

Re: Data sim
Good tip Ross. I've never heard of them before so I just looked them up. I was intrigued by their monthly SIM only deals. Really good prices. It looks like they don't support 4g though which is a shame.
Incidentally, I get my SIM cards for the car from Amazon. £15 buys you an EE 4G SIM card preloaded with 6gb of data which will last up to 3 months (unless of course you use up all that data beforehand).

Re: Data sim
Three is the way to go with these. £30 for 12gb that lasts a year, and if you go abroad, theres no roaming costs in some countries like France and Switzerland (and in others where Three don't cover you with your inclusive content, like I found a couple of weeks ago in Holland and Germany, you just need to preload with some cash credit for it to work).
Surprisingly (given it's Three), the network coverage is spot on with good data coverage in most places, including on the motorway - it's certainly much better than the data coverage I get on my o2 phone!
I've had a sim in the R8 since January and it's used well under 2gb in 2 months, and I have google maps and live traffic going most of the time. My RS4 is using it at an even lower rate but I tend not to have Google maps going on that as much. In any case, it seems 12gb for the year should be adequate.

Re: Data sim
Hi Andrew. I don't think three have as good coverage as EE do they? And is that for 4g or 3g? With my wife and kids all using the cars wifi then 1gb a month os not enough for me. But it is the same cost per gb as mine so if they have as good coverage in 4g then I'll take a look, thanks

Re: Data sim
I often get close to 2gb a month on my own with no passengers using the cars wifi - just me. Using deezer mostly, with occasional YouTube etc. I'm doing 1k miles a month give or take.
I don't mind not having 4g as (like I say) it's just me and for my usage of music streaming or browsing it's plenty fast enough but can see why you'd want it for a family.
I have a 3 mobile and find the coverage spot on tbh - only issue is no roaming in Germany which means I'm a bit shafted when I go to the ring as much as I do. When they include Germany in the roaming I'll be very happy lol.
£30 for 12gb is good - does it roll over so it's £30 every time you use it up? It'd be a pain running out one day then needing to order another sim and having a gap in service.
And Mike - it was reading a comment you said about your data card that made me post here
Useful for people to have options depending on their usage. I quite like the rolling contract as I say - fit and forget which suits me as I'm useless at being organised lol

Re: Data sim
The EE option that I'm using is a bit of a pain in that respect Ross. I have to change cards every 3 months. And when I do I have to register card before use which is no big issue but another little pain, eother put it in a dvice that still accepts those huge SIMs and go online or just put it in the car then use phone to connect via wifi and go online with the phone. Sounds worse than it is as once youce done it once it only takes 2 presses to get online and activate card.

Hi Sam. Just checked the website and I can't find it either. I wonder if they've stopped doing itSurrey Sam wrote:Am I just being an eejit, as I can't see anything like that on their website Ross?RossDagley wrote:Just putting it out there that I pay £4.95 a month for a 2gb a month data plan on "the people's operator". Re: Data sim
Apologies if this is a daft question, but to use data within the car system do you need an add on, or are all the MMI systems supplied ready to work with a sim?
Re: Data sim
You need a car that has the Audi Connect option.
Re: Data sim
Given I dont know what that is I suspect thats one option that I dont have !!!!MikeFish wrote:You need a car that has the Audi Connect option.

Open the flap on the dash. If you've got a sim slot, you're cookingmikeyw wrote:Given I dont know what that is I suspect thats one option that I dont have !!!!MikeFish wrote:You need a car that has the Audi Connect option.

Re: Data sim
Just bought the three 12gb / 12 month option and works a treat!
Re: Data sim
Probably not, no. And it's 3G not 4G.MikeFish wrote:Hi Andrew. I don't think three have as good coverage as EE do they? And is that for 4g or 3g? However......I've never felt I have coverage problems and 3G seems quick enough for what the car uses it for.
Is your deal on EE on a contract or prepay? If it matches the cost of Three then I'd stick with EE, although roaming could be pricey if used abroad (the reason I chose Three).
What I can say is that EE and Three have much better data coverage than o2!

Would 4G make any difference?
I understood that the RS4 was only 3G?
