Hi folks,

just thought i'd introduce myself and ask a couple of questions..

I bought a new B8 last July, Nardo Grey. Have only been doing low miles for various reasons, so not yet broken through the 4k barrier.

The car has been in for noisy suspension.. Had a new shock on the off-side front.. has made little difference so guess I'm stuck with that.

So as I said its about 8 months old now and its just decided it needs service.. I guess this is probably because it had been sitting around in the dealership for 4 or 5 months before I bought it.. But the real surprise was that the dealer said it was on a 2 year service interval, so was a bit shocked to get the service message this morning. Is this normal?
I guess it just needs an oil service.. ?

Thanks

Richard

The service lights are pretty clever. Allegdly they adjust to what the car needs, but that might be BS.

In short, it is good practice to do an oil and filter change annually anyway, even if its 0 miles, so i say, yes. Get it done

In short change the oil, the engine is new, and therefore the metal particles will be present in the oil due to it wearing in, i would be changing my oil every 5k anyway.
a 2yrs 16k mile service interval is barmy! oil is the lifeblood of your engine, over time oil fills with water from condensation (made worse if you do lots of short journeys) and we all know that water doesnt lubricate bearings very well.

So the adjusting service indicator is probably correct, oil quality is measured and therefore a change is required.
