Puncture - proper one

Post by Gusto » Mon Mar 14, 2016 11:34 pm

So - you have a flat at home. Proper fizzing air out the side wall type.

What's the best plan:

A) gunk and try to get to fitter for 4 new ones (at end of life anyway) not sure this would work due to size of hole!
B) take wheel off - new tyre - refit and drive back for other 3
C) mobile fitter then drive to get rebalanced in own time.
D) other

Thanks in advance.

Not option A for sure.
Option B sounds the best / easiest option.

I take it you don't have a spare wheel lying around or could borrow from someone?

As a tip, why not keep the best tyre out of the 3 good ones and get a cheap 2nd hand wheel to put it on for situations like these?

I have a tame mobile fitter with a very well equipped van, I'd call him.

Option - D

Had 4 new ones fitted and balanced at home by Kwik Fit mobile. It worked out cheaper than going through all the usual online companies and finding somewhere to fit the tyres locally. It was a very convenient service I must say, even had air jacks to lift the car.

This. 100%.

Kwik-fit get bashed quite a bit on the internet but the mobile fitters I've had turn up have always been excellent.

You're not a million miles away from me, and I have spare wheels with winter tyres on if you want to borrow one/all to drive to tyre fitting place ?

Interesting about kwik fit mobile, I didn't even know they did a mobile service. Unfortunately they don't list any 285/30/21 tyres on their website.

I had the same with a tyre for my old C7 which was running 20" rotors. I fired of an email to them querying, and they said they would update the system so it could all be ordered online, sure enough next day it appeared.

Oh and here's proof the service exists. When I had a nail in a rear on my B8...

Only listing a Sport Contact 3 online for a 20" rotor :( I'd not give those to my enemy. If they could get PSS's (even at normal retail price) it'd be very tempting.

Don't forget they also only list what is currently in stock. I found the options/prices changed several times over the week I was looking around. :)

I've always used a local company to me called Saveontyres
They match the price of blackcircles and dont charge for fitting
The guy does a bit of Motorsport too, so is good for taking extra care of your rims whilst fitting as he understands

Sh!ting, feckin' curse my shafting luck. On the very day I arranged to change back to summer tyres I picked up a puncture from a sharp stone.

Damn! Anyway, apparently repaired and now switched over to summers. They're nearly worn out so I need to thrash them a bit to kill the feckers off.
