When's the 1st service due?

My car is 11mths old with 3330 miles on the clock. Today I got in and upon starting a message came up on the DIS saying "Service in 9500 miles or 50 days".
I don't mind servicing if required, but at the point of purchase (I bought it brand new) the dealer intimated that due to my low annual mileage it wouldn't need doing for 2yrs.
What's the score with the B8 service schedule chaps, one assumes they're all the same?

I didn't think they were time restricted annually
My first service was around 8k miles, and now has just told me it's due another in 1200 miles now that I've reached around 26k

Thanks Graeme. I thought the same as you, so I was surprised to see the message come up. 3300 miles seems very early to me?!?

Car can be set at short or long life servicing. Different oil is used depending on what is chosen...yours appears to be on yearly just now and will have been set as that by the dealer.
On these type of cars I prefer yearly over long life, servicing a car is more.than an iloil and filter change so worth getting it done. 3k miles is low though!
I'm at 10 months and 12k just now...service due soon!

The supplying dealer is supposed to ask you whether you want to be on fixed annual (365 days or 12k miles, whichever comes first) servicing; or AVS which is a maximum of 2 years or 20k miles but that reduces depending on use and driving style.
So after 11 months the service indicator saying "service in 30 days" means the car was put on fixed (annual) servicing by the supplying dealer.

Millage is only a contributing factor to when a service is required... oil breaks down over time, petrol dillution from cold starts and short journeys can really "wear" out the oil.
As your car is in its running in period i.e first service is due, i'd have it changed, there's going to be little metal fillings (completely normal) due to engine bed in and it would be a lot safer to have it changed.
im fairly sure Audi's are set at 1yr intially then changed to longlife after first service.
Personally i wouldnt dream of leaving oil in my car for two years, its done every 6k miles or so as for the sake of £80 and taking the undertray off (do it myself) it keeps fresh undiluted oil and imo lessens the chance of wear to bearings etc.
The more dilluted oil gets the less it lubricates, which means shells and bearings wear out quicker... its down to choice at the end of the day though, my 6 was interim serviced by audi between its major services so was basically done every 8k miles or so and it made very good power at MRC and engine is very healthy.
Oil is a big debate really.

That website is good for explaning it and is a good read if you've got a long lunch break or some time on your hands.

Thanks all. So having called the dealer they are telling me to bring it in because there's no record on their systems to say what setting it is on.
I've looked in the manual and according to the information there's two grades of oil used depending on fixed or variable...

So if it is on fixed I assume I'm going to have to have the oil service done anyway because a variable oil will be different (I'm guessing thicker) and simply resetting the computer could cause issues.

No harm in getting some fresh oil, I'm so OCD I've had mine changed 3 times in 19k

I thought they used exactly the same regardless of service type now?
My wife's S3 had 3 services in 3 years and only covered 9200 miles it's entire life.

Most Audi dealers only hold stock of the longlife type oil so it gets used on all cars even those on fixed servicing, it's easier logistics for them.

So it would seem that:
Variable VW 504 00 = 5W-30
Fixed VW 502 00 = 5W-40
On that basis, if I do have fixed oil in it, then I'm assuming the dealer switching the car from fixed to variable shouldn't be an issue?

Funnily enough, I've just gone in the opposite direction as I'm part of the "change oil every year" club.

I know for a fact that my local Audi dealer uses the same oil (Castrol Edge 5w/30) irrespective of the service regime. If a cheaper oil is requested then Quantum oil rather than Castrol is sometimes used if available, although it's only in the 5ltr tubs rather from the bulk oil tanks which store the Castrol. In some instances they use the Castrol Edge oil anyway even if the customer pays less for cheaper oil.

Mine is 9 months old, 16,500 miles and has just had its first service after DIS advised it needed a service. My car does very few short journeys so I'm ok with putting some miles on but wouldn't let it go more than a year without an oil change.
