Dead spot

Post by GOLDFERN » Thu Sep 10, 2015 11:32 am

Has anyone experienced a dead spot from idle? We have had multiple issues when moving from idle position and accelerating from traffic lights or entering a roundabout-- the engine is running but wont accelerate for several seconds-- very scary

Very strange , yes ive had this experience once around two weeks ago, driving hard up to an island came to a near stop then accelerated away with nothing there , panic'd and put on hazard lights to warn cars behind, then within 5 seconds all power came back and I was off,,,,

never happened since and ive never mentioned it to Audi, I may when next in

Not yet.. Few questions...

What engine mode are you in? Drive, sport, manual
Do you have hill hold assist?
What gear was it in? Did you get a glance?

Mode was comfort.
Yes have hold assist--but not used.
No-but assume 1st. It was in auto mode.

Was the engine warmed up? I have experienced something similar on a cold engine and having spent a couple of minutes in crawling traffic.

Hello,

I believe what you experience has to do with the mechatronic unit in the s-tronic gear box. Have a look at the YouTube video in the link.

In short. The second shaft is in position to change up in gear, and as you apply throttle it changes mind to change down and therefor introduces the lag. Hope that helps.

Ah, that makes sense (relevant part at about 9:30 in that video). I've had it only four or five times in two and a half years, and it was either just after or just before a roundabout, or once when I slowed down and then planted it to test the acceleration. I can see how if it is just in the process of selecting one gear on the "other" clutch and then has to pick another one it would take a moment. It's still disconcerting though ...

Not experienced this myself, however, isn't as quick off the mark when in auto mode with Comfort selected... I think starts from second gear in this mode which may be part of the reason. Just a thought.

If it is between gears will this stop the engine revving for a few seconds

I suspect that the engine will try to rev match the next gear automatically and prevent over-reving.
