Dealer damages front bumper

Post by moonigan » Tue Oct 07, 2014 6:02 pm

Hi folks,

I'm after a bit of advice about where I stand in relation to some damage that I spotted on my car the day after I took delivery. It looks like something that could be done by a polisher and is only really visible when close up. The dealer is being very good about it at the moment and is offering to rectify it. I have expressed concerns about having any non factory paint on the car because cars like the RS4 can come under close scrutiny from buyers who may be able to tell if the car has had any paint and then begin to question what else has happened to the car. However on the other hand part of me thinks lifes too short and let them sort it and move on.

Here are some images so you can get an idea.

Thanks in advance.

i would let them fix it mate,a few rs4,s etc etc get front bumper and wings sprayed anyway due to stone chips so wouldnt worry about, personally i would get it sorted asap if the dealer is holding there hands up,but make sure you happy with outcome before driving it away, good luck

I wouldn't be to happy with that!! Looks to me like it's been polished before to try and hide the damage!!
I take it the car is brand new? If so I wouldn't be happy to start having the car painted at such am early age
Maybe you can strike a deal on this?

Yep. Have to let them rectify it to your satisfaction. You could go down the whole reject the car route but that's going to be miserable for you.

What do you want out of this?

I agree. Probably be quite hard to reject the car for something relatively trivial. As for what I want. I just want the car to look like the brand new car I paid for and have no comebacks in 2-3 years time. Car is ace and there isn't anything about it that I would change if I could choose again so hopefully they can sort it.

I agree and my concern is that the bumper itself scored rather than just a scratch on the paint which would require a filler of some description (I think) to get it perfect again. I may try for a new front bumper in the first instance and see where that gets me. As for a deal, my wife's car is due for replacement in Feb and she fancies a cab of some description so I could ask for a good deal on a A5/A3.

New bumper would still need paint. Can't see that needing filler, they'll flatten off, key then paint.

Nah, it's not deep, not through the paint. New bodywork is only going to mean more faffing and likely worse finish.

Don't just push for new stuff for the sake of it being new. Push for the best finish, and that will come with least change/re-work.

As stated it does look polished...however it also looks like it could be a defect in the bumper. I'd also agree that a repair and re-application of ceramic coating for the whole car would suffice and mean you are without the beast for as little time as possible.

Why not take it to a professional detailer to see what they think?
Phantom Black C6 RS6 - ex Classba battleship
Mugello C6 RS6 5.0 TFSi AVANT - Gone.

If you have any quieries for interior or exterior LED's then get in touch.

That's been polished a lot, the rounded edges gives it away.

Thanks for all the responses. The car goes into the bodyshop next week for them to sort it and as long as I cant tell its had anything done then I'll be happy. They seem to think it will polish out, I told them I wasn't as optimistic. Lets see what next week brings...

I would get the car repaired, when i had my car damage by the audi dealer the dealer did everything to put the car right it was perfect by the end, you will just have to be firm but fair.
