Gearbox problem..

So, my car has developed a gearbox fault in the last few weeks, when coming to a stop in either auto or manual modes the gearbox is slamming into first quite severely. This only happens once the car has been driven for 30 mins or more.

Audi had the car back to look into this and reset the gearbox, this obviously didn't work so its booked in again with a 13 day wait time due to the lack of courtesy cars!

Anyone else had any similar problems?

ask the dealer how they reset the gearbox,as i had a chat with my local dealers about reseting the gearbox (i have a few issues) because i thought they could reset the adaptive values, this would seem to not be easily done unlike the older s-tronic boxes,i was told its a lot more involved than the old boxes so i would think your dealer is not telling the whole story as i'm inclined to belive the mechanic i spoke to because they know im not easily fobbed off with nonsence :beerchug:

Thanks for the info, I've spoken to Audi UK to see what they can do about a loan car then hopefully my car can be in the workshop sooner.

It's like being rear ended every time I come to a stop.. :thumb:

I've had the exact problem. The dealer was in contact with Audi technical dept and the solution was to change out the mechatronic unit and replace both clutch packs. This was on a gearbox that was less than six months old, the original gearbox was replaced as a complete unit after 8 months old due to a hydraulic whine which couldn't be diagnosed/repaired, again Audi technical dept and Audi Germany were involved and the solution was a brand new gearbox. I've owned the car for a year and love it, apart from the frustration of a major component failure then a secondary issue with what in effect is a brand new gearbox.

My experience with the dealer has been superb, service and communication has been second to none. Audi UK on the other hand?! After the gearbox was replaced I received a free service from Audi UK as gesture of goodwill, with the second issue of harsh downshift gear changes, I asked for an extended warranty as my confidence, in what I see as a premium product in the Audi range, was no longer there. The reply I got was " Audi don't give extra warranty, we only sell them" The "customer service" manager offered as a gesture of good will to refund a meal for two up to the value of £200, which will be refunded not by Audi UK but by my local dealer!

To say the least, I'm pi**ed off! My last 3 cars have been from Audi. The next one, definitely not! The RS4? Unbelievable car. Audi UK customer service? Unbelievable that customer and service are included in they're department title.

Rant over.

Thanks cola, so the gearbox is suffering from the same issues as a few of the B8 S4 cars.

I'll feed all this info to my 'master tech' and see what happens. :audibash:

Just wondering if you guys are pushing the brake pedal thinking its the clutch? The RS4 is an auto you see, so dumping the clutch hard would have the same effect....

Hello Cola

I am having issues with my RS4 B8 with a whining noise-- that is really bad at idle and low speeds--in fact the noise is as loud as volume 15 on the stereo. So far I am told it is normal, but I have been in two RS4s without the noise. I have also been in several that have the same noise and an RS5 with the noise. The noise is only evident inside the vehicle.I am in New Zealand and the importer asks if you could supply me your chassis number so that they can go to the factory with some facts--can you help? My email is warren@vininggroup.co.nz. I hope its okay giving you my email?? Sorry to bother you but it frustrates me that I should have to put up with it.

Quick update, Audi have had the car since last Thursday. They took some readings from the gearbox, sent them to Audi technical and it came back as needing a software update and gearbox reset.

Guess what, they couldn't even upload the software update, and they flat refused to acknowledge the info I gave them from Cola's post.

Audi UK have supplied me with a new diesel A5 Cab. :audibash: :drink:

So....it's the mechatronic unit and they will be fitting new clutch packs too.

Parts were due to arrive today, they didn't and the one they thought they had has gone elsewhere. Now I have to wait upto 21 days for one to come in from Germany.

They are trying to get me another courtesy car with at least an S badge, that could take a week apparantly! :audibash:

Interesting.... I am aware that a certain number of cars (mainly RS's) that are all under a year old that have recently been returned to Audi via one of their sponsorship deals. I'm surprised none of these are available to keep a PAYING customer happy.......

Will - Have you put it in writing to ACS??

Tbh Smudge I've given up. I've had 3 cars from my local dealer in 18 months and won't be getting another from them.

Got a call yesterday to tell me they have got me an S3 and the parts may be in on the 28th. The S3 is coming via paragon rental.

Today I was supposed to collect the S3, so I made sure my afternoon was clear to collect.
The S3 never arrived at the dealers, a mix up apparantly and it was sent elsewhere.

I have put all this in writing to Audi UK now, and spoken with them. They promised a call back which never materialised!

I give up. :drink:
