AMI connection lost.....

I'm at a loss here for next steps - turning to the collective wisdom of you lot before reverting to the dealer.

I have an iPod Touch and for the last year been connected via AMI cable in glovebox for music. All well and good as the kids get to use the full benefit of my B&O system for their nursery rhymes.

About a month ago I stick a Vodafone data only SIM in and have been enjoying Google maps etc.

So far so good.

A few days ago I hop in, plug in my iPod ready for a burble about but "no media source found"

Check the lightening cable and AMI cable - still connected and I can see that the charging icon on iPod is showing that the iPod at least recognises that it's been connected.

Back in, attach iPod to laptop to see if it needs a software upgrade etc - nope.

Two days on - the car still doesn't want to recognise the iPod as being attached at all.

WTF?

Not keen on shelling out another £30 to the Steve Jobs estate to see if it's a cable issue as the charging light on iPod is recognising the car connection.

Any ideas?

Is there a system reboot or reset I could try for the AMI?

Any help appreciated at this stage!

Have you updated the iPod software at any point, as it sometimes takes Audi a while to catch up with Apple updates, or that's certainly been the case with iPhones ?

Thanks - not sure it's a software issue with the iPod. It stopped working without any software updates as it hadn't been connected to my laptop for a month or so before then.

It's a right pain in the backside as we're off to Cornwall with the kids on Thursday and it'll be a long drive without Humpty Dumpty.

Could you copy the music to an SD card instead, just to get you through the holiday journey?

Yeah - back up plan is to load CDs onto Jukebox for kids at least and maybe if I have time do an SD card.

Farkin' annoying though.

£25 later for a new Apple 30 pin/ lightning adapter and all is well again in the B8.

Weird as the old cable would charge the iPod but not allow it to connect to the AMI.

And £25 for something that cost 30p for a 9 year old to knock out in a Beijing sweatshop is disgraceful - I only have the iPod as it was a gift, and I do so resent them for their form and marketing over substance approach that translates to premium prices for technically inferior <beep>.

Rant over.

I know it's now too late, but if you have the issue again, there's plenty of 99p alternatives on eBay that aren't necessarily apple branded, but probably work just as well for that purpose

Cheers fella - noted. I fell victim to the tyranny of convenience as I work a 5 min walk from Apple on Regent St. I am a lazy b'stard and I paid up.

Fools and their money and all that...!
