Optics pack versus alu-wing mirrors.

On cars with the black optics and darker wheels I sometimes think the wing mirrors (massive ungainly units that they are compared to the B7's loveliness) stand out a bit. Has anyone sprayed them gloss black or colour coded them to the car? Can you buy the alu bit separately and have it sprayed (without having to replace all the electric gubbins), so you can replace the original ones if desired? Can you get them in carbon? I saw a white RS6 with black optics and the carbon mirrors the other day and it looked crazy-good. 
did you just spray the original mirrors of get new ones?
