You might want to have a look at Autocar's article on the history of the Audi RS, and which is regarded as the finest RS model - and it's not the B8!

I've not seen it, but I'd hazard a guess at it being a B7 ?

Just admit after the negative comments about b7s before I got mine I absolutely love the damn thing . The next car will not be a b8 either . Mines been sat on axle stands while the alloys are refurbed and I've missed driving it soo much

There's a few things I miss about my B7, but I'd never have another one after owning my B8. The game's moved on quite a but now and the B8 suits me down to the ground
I had a drive of my mates B7 just a few days ago and despite the sound and steering being better than my B8, it looked and felt really dated. The indicator click/clack noise, for example, sounded like it was more suited to an 80's escort

I'd agree about it being the sweet spot of the range at the time. If you look at the BMW and merc competition back 7yrs ago, then the Audi was miles better, and a fair bit faster
BMW's are largely irrelevant now as they don't make a fast estate, but merc have come good with the C63 and when it goes 4wd.......

Same here - Loved my B7 but the B8 for me is a more useable everyday car plus the fun!.

Ironically the one car that people kept randomly saying they liked was my S5 !

Were they car people? People not into cars seen to love the '5.

I remember an old school acquaintance seeing me get out of my Sprint RS 6 plus, when I had just got it and telling me I should have bought an A5 S Line. Shut up you tw@t.

Sadly il be swerving the b8,I can't agree it's moved on,it's level at best, click clack of indicators isn't why I run high performance cars and is scraping the barrel at defending the b8.Im sure you can do better :bigblink:

6/7 years ago I would have loved a B7, but as I like to buy new performance cars so I know the history of them that means the best RS4 is the B8. I am not comfortable buying a second hand car that some Gary boy has 'modded' with unknown history. When you compare the 2 on equipment then there is really no comparison, the B8 is certainly the more grown up. OK it might not have the driving experience, but for that I have a much better car as ultimately you arent going to race about in a 1750kg car with the kids in the back.. I know that I have one of the best cars that I can have a bit of fun in but more importantly turn up to client meetings without looking out of place when discussing multi million pound projects

My six year old asked my wife "does your car skid like daddy's?"
Before she could answer my three year chimed in helpfully with "Yeah! Daddy car BIG noise!" and then proceeded to run around the lounge making loud revving noises followed by occasional simulated tyre screeching.

Not a lot you can do in light of that evidence

+1

As I put it in the thread in the B7 forum, the B7 was out when I was 24, at uni and working part time. It was never on the cards.

I'm 31 now, in the fortunate circumstance that I can afford one (just not a holiday now.. :boohoo: ) I want a new RS4, i want it un-modified, and i want it with clean history. So new is the only way to go. IMO the B8 is a step forward in quality and in looks, but I would have said the same about the B7 when it came out too.

The B8 is a grown up car that can leave you grinning from ear to ear every time you get in.

Remember, we used to live in mud huts...

My only issue with the b8 is that I prefer the drive if the b7.
If I want toys and decent interior then plenty other options.
It is a tough call and it's just a Shane they couldn't squeeze in the s6 engine.

I assume you have already driven one with the sports pack and couldnt get on with it? I love how kids drop you right in it infront of the Mrs....

I love the drive of the B8 in dynamic mode, I know its not to everyones taste, but my other car is far stiffer so it is still comfortable for me and I havent had too much issue with it tracking on the road.

End of the day I would rather have an RS4 than no RS4, the whole thing of B7 v B8 is down to personnal choice and some money is a factor. They are both bloody lovely cars and I cant wait to get mine out over the weekend ;-)

I don't get on with the b8 tbh , I'd rather chuck my cash at a used r8 after some one has taken a smack in the face for the initial depreciation ... Job done
