Hello guys, I sold my car to a friend and he asked me help in finding winter tyres.

At the moment I can only find Continental Wintercontact TS830 in 265/30 R20, any of you seeing other stuff around?

Is it the only size he can fit to the 20" wheels?

Many thanks for your help,
Max

Michelin do some as well, not cheap though looking at the prices.

I would be tempted to buy a set of 19" wheels and winter tyres if I were going down this road.

Anyway, the link to Michelin

Yes, I suggested to him the set of 19" + tyres on the "for sale" section here, but he would like to spend less if possible...

I've seen the Michelin as well, but none of the usual online tyres suppliers have these! :(

My first question would be, do you need a set of winter tyres on a 4wd in this country? I've had range rovers and imprezas and never really felt the need for them, but I do appreciate on a rear wheel drive they are essential...

Nope, he's going skiing in Switzerland over Christmas, hence the need for winter tyres.

I'd suggest the answer is definitely a yes
If my B8 is anything like my old B7 on regular tyres, then it'll be pretty poor in the snow
Yes, the Quattro gets you off the mark and up hills well, but braking and cornering in a 1800kg car on wide tyres is a hairy experience

Ironically, my wife's 2wd mini countryman is miles better in the snow as the narrow tyres cut through a lot better

I'll be looking up some 19's and winter tyres for mine in the next few weeks

Of course yes if you are taking the car to places like that then yes winter tyres are needed!! lol

I use http://www.blackcircles.com/ they are quoting Contis at 1073 fitted at a local fitter, great easy service from this website

I used Blackcircles before, unfort the tyres you quoting are "normal" summer tyres, not winter tyres.

Ended up buying online from Tyreleader, first time I use them, looks like they are located in Germany but offering free delivery in 48hrs around Europe.

Paid 1012 gbp delivered he will have these fitted at his local centre.

Thanks all for the help,
M

19s are certainly a lot cheaper than 20s. 255/35 R19 Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme 96 W XL (168 mph) and Nokian WR A3 96 V XL (149 mph) are certainly good value. £660 delivered for the Vreds!

Isn't the correct measure 265/35 for the 19s?
