Cant comment about a stock B8 but thought the steering was a little numb but not enough to put you off it. Dynamic setting was okay too and not as bumpy as a car on coilovers...neither were an issue for me and would defo' tick the box for both.

I still feel the steering on my B7 isnt a patch on the likes of an Evo or an Impreza and struggled with the RS4 when i got back from the Ring in the track scoob - but these are much better built cars and heavier so i guess its horses for courses.

If youre in the market for a new RS4, i would go for dynamics, buckets, plus ceramics if youre feeling flush

Interesting comments, but I'd still like to know how a stock car feels, the little I've caught so far suggests that the steering is inert, but as you say, it's a heavy (ish) car. I had buckets in my B7, much as I loved them once in position, getting in and out was a pain and with two growing daughters I'm guessing the legroom could be an issue. Someone mentioned that the standard seats are fine, so I would probably put the money towards ceramics (if I go for one).

The steering wasn't as bad as the magazine reports would suggest. In fact, I could barely tell the difference between the B8 and driving the B7 home afterwards. Admittedly, it a little heavier in dynamic mode, but the feel was still there
It was a wet day though, so trying to find the feel at the absolute limit wasn't in the agenda

The buckets give more space in the back in the B8 than they do in my B7. It's not limo generous, but its more an acceptable amount where the B7 was s squeeze
The normal seats aren't bad, but the buckets are nicer and fit my arse and shoulders better

Went on mine today,

on the road what a boring car this was. just didnt feel like you was in a 60k car but i think thats cause i was comparing it to my C6.

on track tho, this was something else, i really loved how fast the gear changes were and also like the fact that when in M mode the gears will not shift up its self.

Agree with some comments about having to faff around with the settings, not really needed, should be a get in and drive as it has the muscle sound car sound, well the car fitted with the sports exhaust did anyway, the stock exhaust was too quite for my liking.

All in all i think this would be a great car about the 20k is removed from the price tag after someone has put 10k on it.

The car carparking area was just full of RS3's in daytona.

just my thoughts.

I thought the blue and the black looked best and the rotor alloys didn't suit the car at all
I think I'll be going for black/black with the deleted aluminium pack, buckets, sports exhaust and the larger vspoke wheels (if I decide to order)
I've made a time with my local Audi dealer to see what the deals are, I'm scared to think what they're going to offer me for my B7 :(((

Invite for preview drive

Post by doodlebug » Thu Oct 25, 2012 9:19 pm

It'd be Sepang with Alu and normal seats for me. Oh and ceramics and most of the other boxes ticked.

I liked the buckets, but they'd get trashed. See the state of them on the track cars?!

However, I think I'll wait it out for the RS6. And then buy an R8.

is prism the special colour paint that is a dark silver?

if so that was the best color there.

daytona looked very understated on the B8 - couldnt see arches and prism was far nicer...

i have a daytona B7 and looked forward to see the new shape and shiny new paintwork but it didnt work for me..

sepang was fave colour of the day - black optics and balck BBS rims to finish off

Graeme4130 wrote:I basically agree with all the above

My comments though would add ;
The standard exhaust is a lot quieter than the std one on my B7
All the cars were fitted with DRC, so hard to compare what the car would be like without it (likewise bigger alloys)
The engine doesn't feel much quicker than my B7 and not have the defined kick at 5.5k is something I'll miss
Turn in feels pretty decent, but today was damp so difficult to get a decent appreciation of the limit, although levels of grip on the road were good
The DSG box is very smooth and exceptionally sharp
In my eyes, it doesn't look as aggressive or have the presence of the B7, although for me that's not a bad thing as the subtle nature of the B7 was always a bonus as its my everyday car and gets left all over the place
The buckets are a lot better than the standard seats, although this is going to be massively dependent on the shape of the drivers arse and shoulders

Overall, a good day and after considering it on the way home, I think I'll wait 12-18 months before I purchase to let someone else take the large initial depreciation hit. Although I was impressed with the car, it's not worth 40k more than what I'd get for mine. I might step the 997TT search up a notch now and keep the B7

I shared a car with Ash, who's another another Rs246 member and we both managed to get the car completely airborne on the alpine circuit, which was fun as it was someone else's suspension bill :biggrin3:
Generally though, it's a very impressive car and the dsg box really suits the high revving nature of the car
Wonder what a supercharged one would be like :jump:

If you don't mind me asking, did you get the V spokes as part of the sports pack or are you paying extra?
