Axing the RS4 this late just doesn't make sense?! The only reason I can think is Audi simply don't want the uneconomical old school 4.2 V8 in the RS4 in these days of recession, carbon emissions and fuel economy. The much more economical new twin turbo 4.0 V8 may not fit - Mercedes just launched the C klasse coupe with the old NA 6.2 V8 because of the new twin turbo 5.5 V8 simply won't fit in the engine bay.
I very much agree with Ian. I really dont understand why they would use the V8 from the RS5 when turbo charging seems to be the way forward in terms of performance and economy. The 4 litre V8T would be so tuneable that there really is no need to look at staying with older technology. With regards to the looks of the car I've seen going around the 'Ring' it looks almost like a baby RS6. The sexy round, curved blistered arches on the B7 seem to have been replaced with square, boxy ones which arent as nice IMO. I am also not impressed with the interior quality of the new b8. Its very plasticy and low rent as I have said before.... And with the RS5 being a bit of a steamroller, it doesn't bode well for the new RS4 at the moment but here's hoping that they pull the cat out of the bag... again!

So it's V8 4.2 N/A for sure... leak from the Switz importer (cars that will be presented at Genewa).

I wonder if there is a risk that the engine gets changed to a 4 lt TT after a period of time just like like the S5 went from V8 to s/c V6. As we know, they now facelift RS models mid cyle so anything is possible.

As it stands the new RS4 would get spanked not just by the M3 and C63, but also by the S6 and S8 when they get the 4 lt TT engine. If it is DSG only (and nothing wrong with DSG but prefer manual) then I can't see there being a huge audience for the car.

jack, the A4 is already mid cylce ... the next change to it will be a B9, so i dont think there is any risk of the RS 4 being facelifted

Facelift reference was more of an anecdote for an engine change...I would be pretty pi$$ed if I bought an N/A V8 and they later fitted them with a TTV8/V6
