I would like to think that when the car was PDI'd it didn't have an issue, because you would have to be totally 'mutton jeff' not to hear it. Equally, when it was given its 100 and odd point check as a used car sale a couple of weeks prior to me collecting it, the same would apply, unless they heard it and chose not to rectify it.
Anything can deteriorate over time, but over such a short space of time....????
I have been able to drive two new / nearly RS5's today, neither of which had this noise at all, so the claim that it is 'characteristic' certainly isn't the case at all.
We'll see what happens, but they know my feelings/thoughts on it, ie it has to be sorted. You are not buying a £1000 runaround, but a flagship Audi sports car.......with a disconcerting metallic clunk over the smallest of road defects? Sorry, it needs rectifying Mr Audi.

The characteristic thing is a load of BS. No way I can see Audi designed a car and suspension system to knock

My 2011 RS5 spent 36 days in the dealers in 6 months ownership with the same knocking, DRC re pressurised numerous times, new shocks and new DRC valves. Ok at first then started knocking again.
Complained to Audi UK and got a £750.00 credit note. I was so fed up with the car that I traded it in against a brand new RS4 and lost a s**t load of money.

Ok that was my last post and here is the update, The RS$ started knocking and went in to the dealer and they put it down to movement in the interface between the wheel and the hub, they applied a compound at this interface and told me it was cured. But I have just collected my RS4 (15 months old) from the main dealers after the knocking still seemed to be there especially when cold, this time they checked the DRC system and found the pressure to be low (18 bar ) I believe, they re-pressurised the system and completed an update, however this is the interesting bit they told me Audi had had a lot of issues with this and as such had raised a TPI whatever that is, so from my perspective I would say that Audi have confirmed that there is an issue.

That being said I collected the car today and no sign of the knocking as yet, however the question needs to be asked where is the pressure leaking to cause the drop?

I will see if I can get the TPI number from the dealer. I just hope it's fixed it this time! :audibash:

Does anyone know what an Audi TPI number is?

Mine is now 99% knock free....

Kings Lynn Audi had it for 4 weeks and re pressurised the system several times before it quietend right down.

I accepted it back with a gesture of goodwill from Audi.

I presume it's a technical service bulletin, they probably got that wrong though! :audibash:

Bought the car from Kings Lynn.

Newcastle had a go at fixing it first but no luck...

after wrongly having the near side front shock replaced, I have now had the drivers side too. Seems to have corrected the clunking for now.....

I think part of the issue is the noise you get from the cr4p Pirelli's, mine are 78% done and it is the first time I am pleased about needing new tyres (at 8.5k...) Michelins it is....

During service yeasteday I asked my dealer to take a look at a DRC knocking issue and it turns out the two front shocks won't hold the gas so are being replaced, they tell me the shocks or part of them have been re-designed to help prevent the problem so we'll see.

Should have the car back today or tomorrow morning so will confirm if this has fixed the issue.

So is that V4 DRC now?

To explain - the B7 RS4 was originally built with V2 DRC that was supposed to be better than the V1 that was fitted to previous RS models, but it wasn't and hence the "extended goodwill warranty" offering by Audi UK (and the full recall by Audi of America) on them. So Audi came up with V3 which is what was fitted to B7s with DRC failures and that's been significantly better than V2 was, so much so that some dealers (like Audi Camberley) say they've not seen any V3 failures on B7s.

So, had amazing customer service from Bury St. Edmunds Audi, they have really looked after me. Turned out to be a knackered front shot cuasuing the knocking noise as it wouldn't hold gas. Replaced and the system regassed etc. and it as it should, no knocking and works well.

All fixed under warranty of course while I had the a 1st service, the service turned out to be half the price expected so all is good.

P.S. I had 2 days of getting 50+ MPG from a 2015 20.0TDI multimatic S-line which was nice to see but it was soooooooo boring.

Head of Business at Bury is Andrew Maund, of Kings Lynn Audi fame. Based on that alone I'd expect Bury to be a good outfit.
