Depends what you want and need from a car. For me there's nothing out there, or close to being available anytime soon, that even comes close to the B8's suitability, so I bought one.

I'm with you Riv on the basis of the technology offered in later cars, the platform is showing its age. However, if you want a quick, understated, 4 wheel drive estate your options are fairly limited. The new C63 looks interesting, but don't think it will be 4wd, could be wrong but I'm sure I read they're reserving this for the intermediate C430 model. With the power these cars are putting out nowadays I don't understand why 4WD is not a standard offering, I had a real hoot for 24 hours in an M5 last year, in the dry it was wonderful, but damp/wet roads took the shine off for me.

Exactly, there's nothing out there that's 'special' (performance and looks wise) apart from the B8 RS4. The 'old technology' was something that I debated long and hard before sinking my money into one, but other manufacturers don't seem to want to play in this section of the market. The best BMW do is the 335i, but that looks like the rest of the range and is no where near the RS4 on power. The new C63 is RWD only (for the time being), which leaves nothing that I'm aware of? So with the B9 a minimum of 18mths away, I went for a B8.

Lets hope you boys don't have pirellis fitted, after about 5k miles they are totally useless, moving to michelins makes a big difference, I would say 30% better grip

The ride is definitely better than I remembered in the test car I had some months ago, that car was on Pirelli's. Other than their ability on slush/snow I'm happy with them, but the absence of any grooves on the outer edge is something I wasn't prepared for. I'd like to try a Michelin shod car for comparison.

No Sports Pack, so normal steering, not Dynamic. Just seems odd to me to do this and then pay over £1k for the 20" wheels, but that's just me as I know some people don't like the Dunamic steering.

Also I noticed the option for 'Leather 3-Spoke steering wheel' is ticked. does that delete the standard flat bottomed wheel?
I changed this option to the above as I don't like the perforated standard wheel, the replacement is flat bottomed. :beerchug:

Photobucket is pooped at the present so will post up in the morning... :thumb:

Dribbler wrote:Yeah, the wheel situation is pretty far from ideal and I'm going to confirm that's really on the car. It would be gash so I'm hoping it's an error.

The situation with the sports pack is that I just don't want drc or dynamic steering. That's how I'd spec it.

They also have a sepang blue one.
Apparently both are flat bottomed.

So, the only difference is the perforations (or lack thereof)?

Sorry my comment was a bit of a non sequitur. Meant that the two cars I mentioned on the page before have the flat bottomed steering wheel, rather than the 3 spoke version (in spite of the spec quoted by the dealer).
