Some of us would be taking a drop down to b8 power levels :biggrin3: Silver for me is the best looking colour in the b8 it looks well but no dissimilar to a black edition as silver doesn't show the arches as strongly as some colours,I'll hopefully be hearing what a b8 with a milltek sounds like shortly,it may swing my feelings towards the car.....let's see.

Being a newbie here and a BMW M33 v E92 M3 owner I see this discussion as a very similar argument to the E46 M3 v E92 M3.
There are a group of enthusiasts who rate the earlier car and obviously think its better than the newer model.
I am in the position to be looking at new RS4 `s and would really like to compare the two.
Price could be a big factor as Audi are doing great deals on the new car!

Would you like a Ferrari F40 or a Ferrari F50?

Both are great cars, I think what it comes down to is budget.

Nowadays you can get a mint, low mileage B7 for mid-high 20s or a brand new one for late 40's.

If you have the cash, get the B8, if you don't get the B7 - both are awesome bits of kit.

No it doesn't come down to budget, newest and most expensive doesn't always mean you are buying a better model. Its proven in many model runs,rs4 m3 blah blah motorcycles the same, ive owned a k5 gsxr1000 since nearly new until recently as its well known all later models didn't match the package of the k5.You should be able to presume 5 years on they would move the game on but......0-60 times with RS4s have been static for over a decade!!! Road tax and fuel costs has become stupid in recent years on these type of cars,i expect more performance than what I was buying 10 years ago if im to pay it.The b7 is getting old and hard to find a nice one,if you get bummed by audi for all maintenance they could be a dear car to run if you buy a neglected example. If you don't know one end of a car from another nor a spanner and like the dealership and warranty experience theres no real choice.Same goes for dynamics,if you don't really push the car the handling will be fine for most in the b8.You would be wise however to consider the repeated press conclusions and consider residual effects and general desireability come resale as it will have some effect.

You're right - EVO has just rated the B7 as a "great" car, the B8 only as a "good" one. That's two motor magazines coming to the same conclusion in the last month or so. You B8 owners need to face up to reality - the B7 is the better RS. So much for six or seven years engineering progress :bigwave:

Parked it on the Tesco forecourt the other night and it didn't look old fashioned - it looked expensive and, frankly, just downright special. Clearly I'm biased but that's the reaction I get. Been approached at the gym three times over the last two to three months by others asking about it in reverence. Good to have such interest but it's like giving interviews. :biggrin2:

I agree, I've only ever had positive comments in my RS cars. I couldn't say the same in an e60 M5, where everyone thought you were a wanker for driving it
As the EVO report says, most people who know cars want an RS4 in their life.
If was going to have just one car for everything and not have a weekend toy and use the rs4 as a daily grinder, or have a boring weekly car and the RS4 as a weekend 'best' car then I'll happily admit that there's lots of things in my old B7 RS4 avant that i'd happily have in my B8..... But that's the only admission you're getting out of me. Ok !! Haha

Good lad. It's quite a rare spec I'm after, it's called B8 shell, interior and gearbox options :)

Mate it's a seven year old RS 4 you own not an Aventador.

We all love an RS car here but get over it and contribute something useful.
