I'd also be asking,
How often do the pads need replacing? or how many miles, normal driving, should the pads last for?

The pads seem to be the same material so I would expect a very long life there too. Having said that though, I haven't seen it in black and white, whereas I did see the 190000 miles on the Audi website for the discs.

All this talk of ceramics is killing me as couldn't stretch to them on my budget.....

We will have a brake upgrade for steel discs regardless for our demo and I might try and pick up a set from someone who's trading their ceramic spec car in and fancies a swap + cash at a later date.

They're not bad value on the RS 4 either. Think it costs £1250 more on the RS 5.

Oh forgot about this - had a drunken conversation with someone regarding the maths behind it.
Quite happy to post the details but it's really dull. The essential bits are the brakes convert kinetic energy into heat at a (simplified) fixed rate. Total kinetic energy of the car is the kinetic energy of the car + kinetic energy of the wheels. The wheels have energy from moving forward (like the rest of the car) but also rotational kinetic energy from the angular momentum. So lighter wheels/brakes reduces the overall KE required to be dissipated as heat so shorter braking (assuming like for like). Plugging in rough equations for the B7 you end up that the ceramics would end up with around 3% less total kinetic energy.

The guy for his phd built a neutrino detector out of "spares" in the 80's.
