Oh yeh ... And best previous car:
Passat R36 wagon, soo good and competent, in a B8 RS4 way rather than a C63 or Jeep SRT8 way ..
Aston AMV8 (1973) - loved the way that with 4 people in car you could drop it back a gear at 180k/hr and have the nose ease up when you planted it
Hillman Imp .... First car ... And yes, got laid more in that one than all of the other ones mentioned combined .... Plus it'd go round corners on rails (lowered, fats etc) - sadly 70mph was achievable but 75mph would have needed a mineshaft. Also learnt how to be a mechanic on it .. From the first day I had it. Loved it ... And hated it. Nearly bought another, fully restored and modded, about 5yrs ago.
Photos to come if I can find any

Few 1M's here. Interesting to see the new M2 testing around the ring. Recon its the new 1M?
Re: What's the best car you have owned before the b8
Thanks Jez. I regret selling her, but I made a good profit so I can't complain too much. It put a smile on my face every time I drove it and the thing that impressed me most is it didn't miss a beat. A twenty year old car that behaved and acted like a modern car.Jezzer wrote:Nice run out valver Mr Powell
Interestingly it wasn't a run out car though, it was an early one [vwgeek]When VW first rolled out the Big Bumper model in Jan 1990, Tornado Red on the 16v was a Special Order Colour only (bizarre because you could have it on the 8v as standard if you wanted). VW reversed the decision in Sep 1991 (introducing it on the J plate) due to public demand, so mine is one of a very small handful of G/H plate Big Bumper 'Valvers' in Tornado Red[/vwgeek]

From what I've read it's going to be toned down a bit so it doesn't cannibalise M4 sales. When the 1M was launched, the M3 was a V8, and all other high performance cars of that Price/ilk/layout were non-existent. This allowed BMW to create something unique and push the boundaries somewhat. This was part of the 1M's charm, but then they delivered something that was brutal, incredible handling/feel, and usable, making it legendary. I'm sure ithe M2 will be good, but I'm just not sure a M2 will be able to have the 'Wow' factor and appeal the 1M did, and given the 1M was limited edition I think residuals shouldn't be hit too much.HYFR wrote:Few 1M's here. Jezzer - that makes good sense. But I've got a mate who once knew a girl who was good at polishing his track rod end. If I can find out her contact details I'll pass them on - that could save your arse too.Jezzer wrote:Astonished wrote:Luuurv the Golfs but am now trying to figure out the patchwork quilt combo of carpet, mats and cardboard for the garage floor. Re: What's the best car you have owned before the b8
I sold it in Feb 2010 to a guy called Dave J, who kept it for 10months before having to sell as he moved overseas for work. Two guys from Coventry bought it from him, and it was last seen leaving him on the back of a trailer after they'd taped up and protected for the drive home, with plans to turn it into a garage queen. It wouldn't have taken much because it was immaculate inside and out.Jezzer wrote:Did you sell your valver to Rob Tomlin? If you did I saw it in this workshop the other day
It's still taxed according to the DVLA and I keep an eye on Golfgti.co.uk etc, but it's never surfaced. It would be great to know it's whereabouts.

Difficult to pick one but top3 are:
P1 (Not the McLaren). Did 19,000 miles in 9 months in this car and loved every last one of them. Point to point it was almost untouchable.

Z4M Coupe - Had many flaws but once you learned to live with them it was a fantastic car.

Mini JCW - Still got this tucked away in the garage which is a testament to the car. I just love the way it drives. Just enough power without overwhelming the tyres and every now and again I'll jump in it to remind myself how a car should handle. Love it.

Re: What's the best car you have owned before the b8
These are the four most memorable cars I've owned.
First up the 944 S2, fully prepared and amazing fun. I loved this car so much I used it almost daily for 6 months!
BMW E46 M3, cracking engine, RWD and excellent balance.
The iconic B5 RS4, proper arches and the very special 2.7 V6 bi turbo make for an impressive package once the suspension is sorted.
Then finally the car that got me into Audi's, the B5 S4. Bought standard, spent a lot and ended up with 470hp and AST suspension with many other bits. Cam pulley broke so I sold it for parts.

Love the noggy Rs

Re: What's the best car you have owned before the b8
Starting from the early 2000's...
TTC running 315bhp with forge bits and a great remap..... Awesome car and my first intro to Quattro, would 4 wheel drift easily.. Owned it twice, sold to a colleague then bought it back. Great motor. Moved to Porsche, had the best sports exhaust ever, straight cut and with the roof down was immense. A brief flirt with a Brabus CLK cab... noisey and thirsty, not that quick but handled like a boat Q7 4.2tdi S Line, great engine, pulled like a rocket. Not as comfortable as it should have been! Moved to 997, owned it for 1 month before the engine went, £13k and 3 months later I got it back, but lose all confidence in it. Shame as I always wanted one Went to Range Rover Vogue SE, lovely armchair but really wanted more oooomph... so......

Dream car..... Drove one around Brooklands, absolutely amazing car. Lottery win only though.

Re: What's the best car you have owned before the b8
Whilst this is not the best car I have owned it was still good so I thought I would post it up for a laugh.
