Easier to fit a separate relay on the ignition, starter motor or fuel pump circuit.
Fuel pump is cute as the car will turn over just not actually start.

Loads of options.
Possibly the easiest of all is to simply splice in a switch the starter button. This is nice as no need for relays or messing with high amp loads.
If you want to be swish, you can hook in a RFID activated relay that is closed for as long as the tag is within contact.

The best options though follow standard security multi factor authentication- one thing you 'have' (keys) and one thing you 'know' (password/pin). It would be quite easy to have a simple number pad mounted where the ash tray is that powers the starter button. Go one step further you could make it intelligent with short term disposable numbers for things like taking to dealers. The code expires day after 48 hours. Make it really clever by hooking up to a phone and then you could send it new disposable code remotely...
Raspberry pi anybody? :)

Barmy isn't it, my dad did similar 40 years ago on his MG Midget, wiring a blank switch on the dash into the low tension ignition system

Ditto :)
When my mates pissed me off I flicked the switch and got them to push start the 'dead' car

Either that or fit a master switch to the start motor solenoid!?!
The idea behind using an immobiliser (or even a trip switches) to kill the ODB port is you would keep the convenience of Key Less Go & only have to intervene if wanted to use the ODB port whereas battery cutout would need switching on/off every time.

But none of these suggestions are much use. If they want your car they will just bring a loader and put it on the back.

Also, imagine the damage they would cause trying to get your car started with all your mods. You would not want the car back.

Let them have it, that is what insurance and gap is for.

They are scum, but don't let them bring you or your way of life down.

Yeah, it's called an immobiliser. Worked well enough on the B7. Get rid of keyless cars and then the thieves will have to start breaking into our houses again if they want to steal our cars.

+2, my dad had a cut out switch on his 1968 Volvo.

Huh? What a strange post. Any of the suggestions in preceeding posts would have seen the crooks fail to simply start up the 2013 RS4 after they had hacked the ODB

On the RS4, I like the switch on the starter button circuit best. Mate of mine at Uni had this on his car, had a push button hidden under the steering column / dash, believe it was on the fuel pump so the car would turn over but not fire (as adsgreen mentioned above)

Lets go with the switch from the starter button plus when this switch is active if you press the starter button it sounds the horn? Do able?

Maybe it's my way of thinking, but surely the approach to take is to thwart them from getting into the car in the first place?? Why not just stick some security film on the windows in tandem with a louder alarm siren?

They will damage your car getting into it, they will then proceed to try and access the odb port and start the car. Even if you have circumvented the odb they will be passed, probably damage your car more before they scraper. You come down to a messed up car, probably an insurance claim and that horrid feeling that someone has been in your pride and joy. I would rather never see the car again.

Really easy - the switch is a simple affair with the +12v feed that was to the switch cut and sent to the common pin and one output to the starter switch and one to the horn relay/wiring.
So with the switch one way it starts the car and the other it sounds the horn.
(Assuming the horn wiring is pretty basic - I'd imagine the actual steering wheel sends a message to the steering wheel controller and that sounds the horn)

quote from VCDS web site (not B8 related but interesting all the same)

"Information

Make sure to have all Doors unlocked, otherwise this Control Module may not communicate with VCDS!"

On another note, I wonder how many more new cars BMW have sold as replacements for those stolen, probably quite a few and with Audi and BMW fighting to outdo each other, maybe Audi wanted a slice?
