I have 4S0 615 301 B for the front and 8K0 615 601G for rear discs - 2 of each

And yes, being the saddo that I am - I checked the original brochure for the car and the holes go the "wrong" way on the nearside. Backwards, not forwards. There we've solved the problem of disc warping / vibrations - one side will run hotter than the other as the vanes are going the wrong way ....

£14,995 being the cheapest on ebay now with 147,000 miles.

Quoted a new engine at 112k miles but with reciepts of £6000 for that it seems a little suspicious.

I'd say at £14,000 I'd probably go and take a look, never been one to be scared off by high mileage cars

OK - that's one cheap car - but you're a braver man than me ....

One thing that is interesting to me (as a potential buyer) is that the only cars on my shortlist that are actually selling, seem to be the ones at 'stealers. And anything selling at £30k+ seems to be from Audi dealers only.

So why have none of the private sellers at or above the £30k mark not sold in 3 months? Is this still a slow market or are they dreaming when it comes to the prices they're asking?

Rightly or wrongly when I bought my car I wanted the peace of mind that came with an approved and warrantied car plus they seemed to have the best choice.

Suspect lots of private buyers can afford audi prices and are a bit put off by the risks of a private purchase in case it goes wrong. Of course there are lots of decent private cars for sale out there but suspect it comes down to that comfort factor.

I think if you do your checks and the history all checks out you certainly need not rule out private. Might be worth checking with audi if they would allow you to buy a warranty if that helps. However audi never contacted me to extend my warranty and when I checked on their website it was so pricey I decided to take the risk. Think they wanted between 900 and 1700 to extend depending on excess and scope.
