I believe the TPMS system works on wheel rotation speed, so isn't a sensor in the wheel on the B8
I swap my wheels over each winter without issue

They're not just for the snow, although they obviously transform the car in those conditions
I've found them to generally work much better than summer tyres as soon as temps drop below 8 or 9 deg
As an added benefit, I find the car rides much better on like for like sized 20" wheels due, I suspect, to the softer compound of the winter tyres

I had some 19" 245 section winters and when cold you could drive it on par with the normal 20s on warm roads.

I've just got a set from eBay / Premiumwheels.de
Thanks for the pointer Graeme!

Couldn't find any titanium ones so just need to get them painted/plastdipped/wrapped, can't have silver wheels on a silver car!

I have a B7 and the TPMS wheels have very distinctive valves in them - see the image below. On the B7 you can code the TPMS out using VCDS although I was lucky enough to get winter wheels with TPMS in them so I just have to do a wheel change. I think higher end cars still use TPMS valves as is a more sophisticated system than using the ABS to check for discrepancies but things could well have changed.

One advantage (at least with the B7) is the winter wheels are narrower and also have a different offset - by sitting in board more they chuck less mess up at the arches from the roads and being smaller wheels with higher profile tyres less risk of kerbing in the winter when is hard to see the kerbs.

+1
The 235/40/19 tyre size is deliberate to create some space on the inside of the wheel to allow fitment of snow chains.

I fitted the Silver OEM 19" winter wheels to my Panther Black car and swiftly took them off as they didn't look right, so I got them refurb'd and painted Satin Black.

I think they look great, but I'm not enjoying all that space in the arch from the slightly smaller inset wheel.

Check out the pics (no need to tell me they're 'gash') :0)

Most forums (this included) expect you to upload and host them somewhere else (e.g. Photobucket) and link them. The hosting sites usually have an easy way of creating the link.
Those are indeed on Photobucket and the forum makes it easy by providing a linking mechanism - click on the Img button and insert the link from the picture...
