I'd like to know how exclusive paint works. I assume they pull the cars off the main production line for paint. The paint is then applied using a slightly different process? I.e. More prone to fault. I wonder whether it's a man in a booth.

Me too. Scary to think you pay extra for a four to five month delay with potential for a crap job :audibash:

It's not like it's paint that doesn't already exit in the Audi line up
Is the body in white painted in the same facility as the rest of the a4 range ? If so, then it's a case of resequencing an rs4 shell in with a batch of a4's or a6's etc
If they're made somewhere else, then I guess it's a man in a booth

Probably this

Does it put excessive time on build time?

Surely a man with a spray gun only puts a few hours on the job....not weeks and weeks?

And not £4k of on cost either...
If you get your current car painted by a good painter, then 4k is realistic, but 95% of that cost is in the preparation labour. A guy getting presented with the raw BIW requires very little prep.
Don't get me started on leather costs and the even bigger rip off of coloured stitching .....

I know, I know, they're a company and they have to make money
I worked in the automotive industry for a large OEM, so i know only too well that on selling options is one of the biggest money spinners and I know only too well that you can't do anything about it, but it still bugs me as a customer..
Alloy wheels/tyres are the biggest cash cow
