i know its in the boot and you don't see it but it looked crap Audi could come up with a better solution ie have this as part of the hard liner

Has anyone got a picture of one they can post as I've not seen one yet and ordered it blind
Graeme, will post one over the weekend as I don't have access to the car. Send me a PM if in case it slip my mind.

Mine is without the telescopic rods. I ordered my car without trunk accessories. It came naked with the 4 tie down rings on the trunk corners only.

Subsequently I was able to source the rubber mat, reversible mat and tie down net.
-The Audi rubber mat is custom moulded for the trunk so it contours to the shape of the trunk nicely. It also has 4 spots at the corners over the 4 tie down rings but the spots are pre cut. Easy 2 minute job with a pen knife. After you cut them, it overlays the tie down rings perfectly.
- The tie down net hooks up to the 4 rings so you can semi secure the loose items in your trunk.
- The reversible mat is rubber on one side and carpeted on the other side. It is slightly narrower than the width of the rubber mat so when you overlay the reversible matt on the rubber matt, it still gives you access to the tie down rings. It folds out into 3 sections so it covers the back of the folded rear seats and extends over the trunk. Honestly I think as time passes and the reversible mat gets dirtier it will create tiny scratches on the top of the rear bumper, so not so useful in that regard. Best prevention is still just to be careful when loading and unloading stuff. But I do think it can help against deep gouges.

This is a sight most people are familiar with. Butt naked trunk. It should be similar to most of yours except for those with telescopic rods fitted out.

This is the D ring at the corners of the trunk for accessories attachment. I use it for securing the netting used to tie down loose items.

This is the rubber matt for the trunk. I believe it is OEM. I have also come across a few other versions, some with deeper sidewalls. It comes pre cut at the corners for access to the D rings at the corner. As stated, previously, it's a few minutes job to cut them.

The rubber matt contours nicely to the shape of the trunk. A nice touch.

This is the tailgate protection carpet matt. It is carpeted on one side and rubber backed on the other. It has 3 sections and is long enough that you can cover the rear bumper, trunk and the back of rear seats.

My usual gear that I place in the trunk.

I use a netting to tie down the loose items so they don't shift around when I am driving. The netting has a pocket for additional storage.

And the piece that goes over the tailgate goes over the netting so I get a bit of privacy as well.

That looks ideal to me as I'm constantly nervous about pedal dings when loading bikes in and out or stone marks from sitting on the bumper in muddy/gritty shorts

I have a Hatchbag for my B7 and I'm very pleased with it. It lines the entire boot including the inside of the boot lid. I optioned a split where the fold down seats split and a thick rubber matt. Mine also has a tongue that comes down over the bumper. No pics - can take one if anyone's interested.

I chuck all sorts in here without fear of damaging the interior:

It's custom cut for each model. Over time the left side has beformed a little as I fit the oil behind it. I forgot to photograph the inside of the tailgate. Basically it means that all the felt interior is protected. I've had friends dogs, shovels, and my road bike in there. The reach is a bit short with the seats down, exposing the top third of the felt on the seat backs but it's still pretty good.
